Crisp amber coloured body with a rich, three centimetre tall tan head - it really couldn’t look much better than this for the style. Aroma of alcohol, cardboard, light malt and a good amount of pear and other fruity sweetness. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive cardboardie malt flavour with a pungent medicinal and grainy flavour, some very light sweetness and not much else but some bitter aftertastes and a funky finish. Overall, a pretty poor beer, despite it looking nice, it doesn’t taste or finish well at all. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom [Eye St]) on 25-October-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 05-November-2013.

Bottle. Pours brown with white head. Nose and taste of toffee, oxidized caramel malt, burnt toast and light vegetal notes. Lighter bodied.

Bottle. Cloudy orange pour with thick head. Pleasant malt and honey aroma, but not like an IPA. Some hop in the flavour and finish, but this tastes more like a pale.

11.2 oz bottle. Yet again no type of bottling date or best before date anywhere. I will not go on another rant about why more breweries need to have some kind of date code (I simply don’t have the energy tonight) Lasting tan head on a dark brown liquid. Nose is light traces of chocolate, coffee and roasted barley. Flavor is about what you should expect from the nose. Slight metallic note in the finish. Body and mouthfeel are typical medium and a bit thin like many other porters. Maybe a bit watery. Coffee bitterness to help balance the dark malts. Overall it’s worth a try if you drink porters but no need to go on a scavenger hunt.

The Sampler, Brooklyn bottle ($2): Pours near black with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is light chocolate, licorice. Taste is slightly sweet. Not particularly complex or robust. Easy to drink. Inoffensive. Doesn’t really taste cheap, just uninspired.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear amber with minimal head. Aroma of caramel malt and a very light hint of hops. Taste is lightly bitter with caramel and honey. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long, bitter finish. Overall, not bad. Better than i though it would be.

Refrigerated 11.2 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours hazy light orange with medium white head. Well carbonated, medium body, and thin small bubble lacing. Taste is banana, clove, some dough, and lots of spice. If spice is your thing this is the one for you, my favorite is the clove.

12 oz. bottle. Amber in color, with thick foamy head. Has and odd herbal nose with some musty corn. Flavor follow the nose unfortunately. Mostly the strange herbalness up front with the caramel malt and some bitterness. No reason to go out of your way to track this down. Try the other offerings from this brewery before this.
