Cask at Butlers Bell, Stafford (3/10/23). Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small off-white head. The aroma is a heady combination of malts, raisins and fruitcake. In the mouth it has malts, nuts, cake and parkin plus traces of cocoa and alcoholic strength. Later on some ginger and spices come through as well, leady to a spicy finish. This is a decent strong ale.

Cask at Moon Under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours a hazy “bitter brown” with a small off-white head. Just a general fruitiness in the aroma. In the mouth it is somewhat watery with autumn fruits and malts plus traces of traditional hops and berries. Finish is slightly dry. It’s not bad, simply unexciting.
