Cask at Standing Order, Derby Pours a clear golden amber with a small white head and good lacing. Is somewhat slow to settle. Nose is mainly malts, but there is also some fruit there – tangerines ? In the mouth it is bitter with oranges, plus some grains. Finish is bitter – or maybe sweet ? An interesting one – the jury is out on this

Cask at Alexandra, Derby Pours a golden yellow with a small white head. A promising nose with hops plus some malts and corn. In the mouth, the main flavour is lemons, plus hops and marmalade. A sweetish finish but again hops can be detected. Not a premier league beer !

Cask at Standing Order, Derby Thought I had rated this before, but I don’t appear to have done. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Nose has oats and porridge together with some roast malts. Sweet fruits in the mouth, plus milk chocolate and vanilla leading to a fruity finish. Didn’t get the whiskey, but there are hints of (non-existent) alcoholic strength. This is an excellent beer when on form. Incidentally, it’s named after the Panther pub in Littleover, so the pump clip isn’t really appropriate.

Cask at Old Bell, Derby Pours a golden yellow with a small white head. Some hops and marzipan in the nose. Hops galore in the mouth, with crisp apple peel and pine resin. Finish is bitter and dry. Better than the average golden ale.

Cask at Old Bell, Derby :Pours a chrome yellow with a small white head. Nice enticing malty aroma with hints of biscuits and bread rolls. In the mouth it is floral hops with lemon and orange, and lemony finish. Nice and refreshing. I’m not an expert on Kolsch but I would say this is fairly true to type

Cask at Five Lamps, Derby Pours a golden yellow with a small white head – and very little lacing. Nose is vaguely lemony, but in the mouth a more complex sweetness evolves. Marmalade, grapefruit and oranges, but with an oily hop bitterness underneath. Finish is orange and hoppy. I wouldn’t call this an IPA by any stretch of the imagination – not enough hops. Nice enough but not one of the brewery’s best. One of the session drinker methinks.
