Third, cask, 5.0 % abv, at Brighton Bierhaus. Stable fawn-coloured head leaving clingy lacing down the glass. Coal black body. Promising smell of dark dough and chocolate malts. Earthy malts to the taste buds alongside moments of liquorice and chocolate. Slightly roasted, mid-sweet malty finish. Likable. (Brighton 17.10.2019).

Cask at Alexandra, Derby There are malts in the nose of this one, plus a faint hint of coffee. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Good lacing too. On the mouth there is cherries, blackcurrants and liquorice, and a surprising fizzyness. Finish is dominated by coffee. Drinkable.

Cask at Alexandra, Derby Pours a classic yellow with a small white head. Citrus in the nose, which breaks down in the mouth to lemon, grapefruit and pineapple with malty biscuits underlying this. Finish is hoppy, peppery and lemony. Pleasant enough but undistinguished.

Cask at Alexandra, Derby Nose is nutty and malty – walnuts maybe. Pours a rich reddish brown with a small white head. The nuttiness continues in the mouth where it is joined by fruity notes, strawberries and maple syrup. There are hops in there as well, but they don’t dominate. Finish has a malty sharpness, alongside raspberries. Quite nice overall.

Cask at The Little Angel, Whitby. Pours clear pale yellow gold with a thin white head. Lots of citra on the nose, lime and grapefruit. Taste is pithy bitter, more lime zest. Bitter finish.
