On cask at Old Poet’s Corner, Ashover - Hazy gold with slight head. Big fruity aroma, peachy then just a touch grainy, malty on drinking. The hops show through, quite citrusy, sharp, the body remains a touch thin perhaps but still pretty drinkable. Still okay mind you.

On cask at Old Poet’s Corner, Ashover - According to the barmaid Palule is Hawaiian for shirt, due to the owner’s liking of wearing the aforementioned Hawaiian garment! Either way, gold body with a slight white head. Hoppy, tropical fruit and pine aroma with some grassiness. Plenty of citrus fruit in the flavour, with grapefruit and orange, and also a touch of pineapple, leading to a dry finish. Good.

Cask by handpump, shared with Finn at NWAF ’13. Shiny surface to a bright copper coloured body. Lemony hops to the nose. Citrus taste with lemon and oranges. Dry, bittersweet finish. Refreshing and thirst quenching (Manchester, 24.01.2013).

Cask by handpump, half pint shared with Finn at our second day at The National Winter Ales Festival. Yellow-gold body, bright naked surface. Mild citrus fruits to the nose. Modest taste character of oranges leading to a fruit bitter end. Easy going (Manchester, 24.01.2013).

500ml bottle - Black body with next to no head. Nice woody aroma, but a bit thin in the body, with some dustiness, toast and liquorice in the taste. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad, but the body lets it down.

500ml bottle - A dark brown/black pour with a smallish beige head. Liqourice, roasty aroma. Tastes of liqourice, coffee, a little malt. Very similar to the Tomlinson’s Liquorice Stout, but without the kick.

330ml bottle - God this is good! Deep black, tan head, little fizz keeping it going. Deep treacle, pine, mocha notes, strong dark chocolatey and coffee bit with a hit of alcohol at the end. Warming syrupy finish. Nice. Very nice!

Bottle at home ... Thanks to Janine for this ... Beer doesnt get much better than this ... deep black ... thin tan head ... deep dark roast ... quite a lot of pine hop in nose ... Dark roast ... light fizz ... rich solid roast chocolate malts ... full bodied and rounded ... a little spicy ... but i think this is from hop not from chilli ... Cracking ... bloody crackin

On tap in Brampton 14/2/12 - Low carbonation and very thin. Raved about by my colleagues, but felt this was a pretty mediocre effort.
