Description
The Žatec (Saaz) region is famous worldwide for its unchallenged hops so it doesn't come as a surprise that brewing started way back in the Middle Ages. In 1261 the Society of Žatec Privileged Brewers was established. Close to the end of the 18th century, the Žatec breweries together were not able to cover the full market demand for beer so after 30 years of hesitation it was finally decided to build a new brewery in 1797 where brewing started in 1801. After the German occupation the brewery was nationalized. In 1995 reprivatisation took place and in 2014 the brewery was acquired by Carlsberg. Brewery closed in Spring 2022. A new microbrewery with new ownership started brewing, using its brands, in 2023.

# 2700; 1/2022. Malty and herbal aroma. Brilliant deep gold body; white head. Malty, caramely, stronger herbal bitterness. Good bohemian pilsner. 0,5 l, bottle, multitap pub with beershop, Pilsen (Bohemia, CZ).

No idea what’s happening here but this is brewed in Poland but there’s nowt else on here remotely similar. This might be the right beer but it’s doubtful. Anyway, it’s from the Polish supermarket in Darnall that is genuinely one of my favourite places to spend an hour in. Smells a bit like Jever but more malty. Taste is pretty malty too. Decently refreshing. Cheap as chips. It’s a tick.

Bier trifft Pivo - shiny clear copper golden. White foam. Nose provides some hoppyness and caramel roast. Surprisingly roasty. Caramelly. Slimmer body. Pithy bitterness. Hoppy Festbier/Märzen. Interesting.

Bottle from Tesco Anďel. Darker golden-amber body, off white head. Weird oxidized minerally aroma, sickly vegetal note, wet cardboard. Empty taste, minerally and dry-herbal, a bit stale. Slightly less than 3m before BB date, this is ooold. Ok, some hop presence is still there in the finish, but not enjoyable. To be rerated more fresh.
