Can pour from trade with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Cloudy, maple syrup brown with nice sparkle, thin head with fair retention and nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, toasted earthy malt, dead leaves. Taste is toasted earthy malt, toffee, hint of dark fruit. Smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Good brown.

16 oz can. Aroma is caramel, nuts, and weak fruit. Malt backbone gives the caramel, nuts, and soft dried fruit characteristics. Dry finish. Body is on the lighter side of medium. At this point in my life it is hard to get excited for a brown ale. However, it certainly is well made.

Though retired, here’s my take on this. From the growler, poured into a pint glass and a mug. There really wasn’t any difference between the two.
The appearance was a hazy brown leaning towards a fairly darker complexion. The head was about a finger’s worth of off-white to slightly tan foaminess.
The aroma had a sweet and nutty malty chocolate. There was a light coffee subtly in the background.
The taste wrapped itself in the nutty part with a dark choclate and coffee. The palate/mouthfeel consisted of a light to medium with a smooth feel rolling over my tongue. The carbonation was good for the style and for me. Overall, in my opinion, I used to love this brown ale when I lived in Maine, very solid for the style.

Draught, Harraseeket Inn, Freeport, ME
Dull golden colour. Thin head. The aroma is somewhat husky, fresh grain. Soft and slightly tart body. Slightly husky on the palate as well. Finishes a bit doughy and rustic, with a hint of diacetyl.

2005 bomber shared with Muzzlehatch on 5/22/2005. Layered maple brown to blood orange color, with a yellow bottom. Off white head is well-retained, some lacing. Nose is dry/astringent, tree bark, woodiness, earth, diacetyl. . you know, the whole, "I was walking through the woods with a bottle of cider vinegar in one hand and some walnut paste in the other when I slipped and fell in to a patch of thick soil and mushrooms." sort of thing. Good malt extraction again. Too much cider/rubber. Bottle conditioned, medium-full body, easygoing mouthfeel. Lightly acidic on end.

2005 bottle shared with Muzzlehatch on 5/22/2005. Smells of large amounts of ale yeast, sourish mostly, with some caramel, nectarines and low, but noticeable hops grassiness. Some honey nots. Receding to cover is a white head on a light copper-gold body, bottle conditioned and quite hazy. Flavor is lightly cidery, which seems to be the house character (flaw) for this brewery. Other than that there is lots of yeast giving it quite a sour twang on the end. Honey, pale malts, well-extracted. No bitterness. Finishes lightly rusty/grassy. Low carbonation, easygoing mouthfeel, medium body. I enjoyed. Score would be much higher was it not for the cidery flavor that seems to be a bit too pervasive.

Hazy dull copper, highly metallic aroma. Slight nuttiness. Watery, loaded with caramel. Seems lacking in lagering time, as evidenced by noted uncleanliness - garbage and fruity esters.

On tap at the Great Lost Bear

Dark brown. Aroma of cocoa, graham crackers, instant coffee. Slightly watery body. Thin spent-grainy maltiness, some dark chocolate. The dark malts can take on an almost Bambergian feel at times. Finishes with a vague walnut note and more watery coffee.
