Description
The Brewery Michael Plank was established in 1617. It is a small, family owned business that is now under the direction of the 16th generation Michael Plank.

The current Michael Plank is now the brewmaster and is credited with honing the traditional recipes to their current levels which have led to the company being named as the "Best Small Brewery in the World" at the 2006 & 2012 World Beer Cup! That makes Plank the only brewery to have been awarded this World Beer Cup....twice.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a weizen glass. A classic example of the style. Aroma and taste is fantastic banana clove, wheat and mild hops. What makes this stand out is the slightly more malt they use. It creates a darker color and the malt gives it a bit more body. This won two gold medals ( 2006 and 2008) for a reason. I dream of the day I can get this on tap. FANTASTIC hefe.

Bottle looks simple, but good. Beer in the glass darker than exspected, nice head. Starts malty and fine fruity with notes of banana. Well balanced finish, not too dry, still fine fruity. Very drinkable and good hefeweizen!

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is caramel malts with a nice roast and earth. Flavor is again a nice caramel malt with some toffee and spice. No real clove which i was looking for. This is the fourth beer from this brewer I’ve had and they have all been above par. A little more expensive then the normal German beers you get around here but well worth the price.

Pour is an amber with a huge tan head. Lots of large bubbles that never go away. Aroma is some wheat and yeast and a minor clove. Flavor is some clove and banana but nothing really stands out. Finish leaves a dry bready malt on the tounge. Different looking and just an ok hefe.

Pour is a hazy yellow with an small white head. Aroma is a nice dry pils malt full of breadyness but that is followed by an equally nice floral hop. Flavor is equally stellar with a very clean and dry pils malt with again a nice follow up hop presence. I do love a good pils and this one hits all the good points and excedes them. I could drink this all day.

Pour is a honey color with a large white head. Aroma is fruity with some wheat and cider. Flavor is again starts out on the fruity side then follows with some honey and spice. Finish is very sweet. This is a very nice WB with plenty of flavor.

Lively mahogany pour with a well-sustained head - nose is initially toffee and caramel sweetness, but deeper inhales reveal subdued clove and banana phenols, earthy wheat, chestnuts, warming spices, dry cocoa - the favor has an initial kick of sweetness, but this is much drier than the aroma suggests, dancing the line between weizenbock and dunkelweizen - toffee bookends things, but in the middle is tangy wheat, mellow phenols, tobacco, a touch of tartness/acidity - ends with warming alcohol and dry spiciness - quite nice.

Bottle from Oak Tree. Pours dark orange gold with a foamy 4 finger off-white head. Light clove aroma. Banana as the glass approaches the lips. Foamy carbonation. Flavor is banana, light clove, and something paper/wheat as it washes away. Flavor strengthens with repetition.

Aroma is a plum and raisin with a metallic smell. Malty copper taste at the back of the tongue, sour. Very tart, and over powerful throughout. BUT don’t be mistaken this is very refreshing and flavorful.Finish similar to a wine. I was very impressed with this, it IS from Germany, better then 70% of beers here.

Export bottle from Half Time. Pours very dark brown with a 4 finger foamy off-white/beige head. Aroma is spicey dark malt. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is dark wheat with some yeast/spice. Not getting banana. It’s not dry, but it’s not all that sweet. The spice aspect is nice. Different to me. Quite tasty.
