Description
Remnant Brewing opened in 2018, founded by four friends with a passion for craft beer. Joel is the dollars and cents guy, and Dave is the dreamer with a can-do attitude. Brittany, our GM, brings years of hospitality experience and shapes our team to welcome you into our taprooms. Last, (but arguably most important!) Charlie, our Head Brewer, is the bread and butter of this operation. He brings 17+ years of brewing knowledge to the table and crafts the some of the best beers around.

Brewery draught, 7/28/22. Undetermined clarity. Ebony with deep hazelnut hues. Light tan head shows moderate retention. Big, sweet and vinous port notes are rich yet not sharp. Lovely black licorice, raw cacao and light vanilla, with hints of brown sugar and molasses. Roasty, with soft, rich, port notes that have some sherry-like oxidation to them, as well. Cola, anise, molasses, cacao and light biscuit from the very well-attenuated base malts. To that end, I wish it were richer/thicker, slightly sweeter. But it's clean and the port expression is phenomenal. Not boozey.

Brewery draught, 7/28/22. Clear, medium-gold-brass. Medium, white head, moderate retention. Not much nose, maybe light mineral and fresh, herbal hops. Hint of sourdough on the finish. Clean. Clean, malty, crisp, hoppy, with plentiful herbal notes, very spicy, ending on sourdough biscuit. Malty, soft texture. Approaching helles quality/maltiness. Clean, refreshing.

Brewery draught, 7/28/22. Clear cranberry-hibiscus. No head. Tart and earthy hibiscus, fruity and bright with sparse malts behind. Moderately malty (cracker, biscuit) with fruity, lightly peppery phenols and low hibiscus in flavor, which is nice. Doesn't dominate. Nutty and lightly tart on the finish. Very, very light and dry, but clean and balanced.

Tip Tap draught, 7/7/22. Moderately hazy, pale blonde with some deeper bronze hues and a small, white head showing moderate retention. Soft, juicy fruits and big ol bubble gum esters. Is there a touch of diacetyl there? Yes! And more than a touch. Jesus that's a butter bomb. Otherwise it's excellent with juicy fruits, light citrus and soft bubble gum. Malts show light honey and soft, fresh baked white bread. I mean, tough to get excited around all this butter, but it's a solid beer otherwise.

Brewery draught, 4/19/22. Moderately clear, port-colored beer with no head. Straightforward coffee with lactose killing any brightness or explosiveness. Some prune and raisin. Light but enjoyable. Same for the flavor, very light for its size; as many Remnant beers are. Lots of alcohol, not lots of body and flavor. Coffee, raisin, vanilla, lactose. Clean, fine, but severely thin for its size.

Brewery draught, 4/19/22. Heavily hazy, lighter orange juice. No head. Juicy Citra and heavily estery yeast give a very classic NEIPA nose. Buttery in the mouth, with ample, balancing bitterness for the soft, deep, doughy texture. High attenuation. Lots of bubble gum. Not as much juiciness as I'd like from the hops and then, of course, is all the diacetyl. Remnant kinda lame these days...

Brewery draught, 4/19/22. Pretty cranberry-violet-rasberry. Thin ring of foam on edge. Lightly-to-moderately hazy. Some blueberry but a lot of lactose. Usually avoid lactose kettle sours but haven't had one from Remnant yet. Bare lactic acid, cracker. Not much depth or intensity of fruit. Softish at first, some juiciness of fruit but drying out quickly with sparse crackers malt. Tart fruit acids are pleasant but this beer needs some substance/sweetness/body to balance all of the tart/dry/bitter/cracker.

Brewery draught, 4/19/22. Moderately to heavily hazy, maize-golden. No head. Juicy citrus and bubble gum giving way to light nectarine, pineapple and a hint of dank and/or spicy pine. Soft and juicy in the mouth, fairly malty, well-attenuated. Spicy cashmere alongside classic orange juice and bubble gum. Zesty! Malts are a bit flat/sparse. I like that there's a solid, spicy-bitterness but it's just a bit thin on body/malt. Even more sweetness would probably help here. Clean and no alcohol noted.

Draught at the brewery, 12/12/21. Undetermined clarity, dark mahogany with deep, cherry tints and a small, tan head that fades quickly. Lovely, barrel-forward, but not overdone nose is full of dark fruit, espresso, strong raisin and a good mix of burnt caramel and molasses. No alcohol, lactose or flaw. In the mouth it's surprisingly light, which may be my only complaint; it's just a bit lighter than I'd prefer for its size. But there's plentiful milk chocolate, plum, prune, raisin and molasses to go around with enjoyable but not overdone barrel notes of spice and such. It's soft and dry, but just a touch watery. Still, it's not boozy nor does it have any flaw.
