Bottle @ Bierzwerg.de. Pours cloudy amber with a small creamy head. Nose is bread, grain and caramel. A bit thin and dusty.

500ml bottle. Hazy golden colour with average frothy white head. Slightly biting wheat aroma, rudimentary approach to fruit flavours. Taste is watery, reasonably late strong spicy and slightly medicinic wheat notes flare up, just to fade away for a tedious finish.

Herb-getreidiger, etwas wässriger Beginn. Eher weniger intensiv ist das Bier im Mittelteil, die Aromen störne dafür aber auch nicht. Im Abgang dagegen sind die typischen Entzugsaromen erkennbar, die penetrant wirken und das Bier trocken erscheinen lassen. Trinkbar. 9/7/5/4/7/5

Hefiger, leicht bananiger Beginn. Das Bier wird im Mittelteil zwar deutlich wässriger, es fehlen aber die sonst typischen und störenden Entzugsnoten. Erfrischend, noch wenig hefig. Zum Ende etwas herber, geringfügig trocken. Für ein Alkoholfreies absolut in Ordnung! 12/7/7/5/6/5

Flip-top half litre brown bottle, best before 24th April 2008, drank on a wet and windy 31st Jan 2008. Poured into a straight sided Berliner Kindl half litre glass. Amber in colour,clear and very carbonated, bubbles rising swiftly up to the large white foaming head, it looks good to me. Hoppy and yeasty, a lot more aroma than your normal lager/pilsners, they obviously made the stuff with better ingrediants in 1689 than the German producers of today. The flavours are stronger too, no weak girlie tasteless blond feel, this has some umph, its colour aroma and the 5.2% ensure it is a different beast to the breweries standard pilsner (which I also like). This is bitter and unlike any mass produced German pilsner, in short, it has taste. Thicker and more wholesome, this is a truely fine beer and one I will seek it out when in the area of the Mosel and Koblenz.

From BA: October 2007: Poured into a Schultheiss half litre sleeve glass 7 days in front of its best before date. This flip-top brown bottle was bought while close to Koblenz earlier this year. The beer being produced to help keep the brewery afloat while all its old traditional outlets sell out to Bitburger. A slight mist in the ’Alt bier’ type colour, muddy red, dark brown, with a firm biege head that stays the distance. The aroma is all about maltiness, hops and yeast. Good solid beery taste, the malts from the smell are very prominent in the taste as well. At first I thought it a little sweet, then a dryness arrives to take that idea away. You know you are drinking a beer here, this has some body and substance to it. I am glad I found this beer and also glad I enjoyed it. As I have said in other reviews for this brewery, it is an old favourite and I would hate for it to die. This beer could well be the one to save it from closure.

From BA (Oct 2007). This half litre flip-topped bottle was obtained during a beer collecting trip in Germany (June 2007). Drank 7 days before its due date. Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru glass (twice). Slightly hazy look, which gives the beer a dull golden hue to it. The second pour was obviously a little more hazy. The clean white head falls away very swiftly, it started three inches high and before I had lifted the glass it fell to less than half an inch. Aroma is good for a kellerbier, slight sourness, which flows into the taste and some wheat, even though it has none in it. A little dry and weak tasting, but still some flavour of yeast and hops combine to give the beer a different taste to this breweries normal pilsner beer. The dry sourness does stay in the mouth, but the overall feel is only average, the brewer hasn’t pushed any boats out. This is a run of the mill kellerbier, I was hoping for more from an old Pilsner brewery I used to support when living in Germany.

Hazy yellow with a lasting white head. Grainy malt aroma with a touch of hay. Grainy malt flavour with some hay and grass and a bit of cardboard.
