Can date of 1-8-2019. Acquired in a trade with tfontana, thanks Tom! Shows dull yellow appearance. Normal carbonation level. The aroma is mild tropical fruit, grapefruit peel, crackers. Backbone is bold cracker malts followed by citrus, weak tropical fruits, and a touch of earth. Soft mouthfeel and it goes down the gullet without a hitch. Based on this beer I would try more from this brewery.

Pours a rich black from a can, nearly no head. Roasty aroma, some oatmeal cookie made with salted butter and chopped pecans. Guess I'm actually hungry not thirsty. Good beer.

Can pour into taster glass from the brewery. Appearance is deeply hazy yellow/light brown with tons of sparkle, ring of off-white head with decent lacing. Aroma is lightly smoky, cracker, grape and hint of laundry basket. Taste is a distinctly acrid yeasty quality--almost like vomit--with biscuit/cracker offset by mild bitterness. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, with mostly soft carbonation with late lively zing and a malty/hoppy balanced finish. Overall, a rare miss for this brewer. Taste goes awry in a really weird way--this can't be what Jaryllo hops brings, can it? Maybe I got part of a bad batch...

Can pour into nonic pint glass from the brewery. Appearance is extremely dark brown with slight mahogany--is opaque except with light source directly behind--with nice sparkle you can detect in strong light, finger-width foamy beige head with fair retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, molasses, dark fruit. Taste is strong molasses and dark fruit with late earthy, roasted malt bringing up the rear, hint of ash. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, somewhat watery texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, other than the watery texture, everything else is strong for the style.

Can pour into tulip glass from the Beeracks. Appearance is cloudy orange (like peach or mango juice), no discernible sparkle, two-finger width off-white rocky foamy head with good retention and sticky, sudsy lacing. Aroma is astringent citrus, herbal spiciness, mild bready malt backbone. Taste is tropical fruit, orange citrus, milder candied sugar. Palate is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with velvety-smooth texture, soft carbonation, pleasant mild alcohol warmth, and crisp, dry, mostly fruity finish. Overall, beautiful look and feel. It's nice and fruity and sweet but it lacks a clear identity as the aroma and flavor are hard to pin down exactly.

Can pour into tulip glass. Appearance is opaque black inky motor oil with fair sparkle at the edges of the glass, ephemeral cap of light brown head and no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and bitter coffee grounds, fudge brownie and vanilla. Taste is rich chocolate and vanilla offset by bitter roasted malt. Palate is light bodied with thin, creamy, smooth texture, average carbonation, no hint of alcohol and finish as taste. Overall, not super complex but strong, decadent aroma and taste. A little thin bodied.

Refrigerated 16 oz. aluminum can poured into a cup. Black with no head. Aroma is vanilla, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is chocolate and vanilla.

Aroma is strong lemon citrus and some tropical fruit. Taste is vague citrus, late light pineapple, hint of herb. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, soft-to-average carbonation with late lively sting, crisp mix of sweet, bitter and light tart finish. Overall, flavors are somewhat muted and don't showcase the advertised pineapple and coconut. A rare miss.

Aroma is dark chocolate, rich roasted coffee and malts, lactose, hint of maple. Taste is roasted coffee and malts, lactose and mild maple syrup. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with smooth, thick texture, soft carbonation and bittersweet finish as taste. Overall, strong aroma and flavor (as always) with noticeable lactose for interest but maple is a bit muted. Strong.
