Almost back to back giant killers at Sam's Chapel Hill tasting. Does anyone drink water anymore?
Lux, oily black, slight russet, lingering coffee lace.
Loads of barrel, still big oatmeal, sticky malt nose.
Viscous, soil, toasted mallow, still very earthy but way sharper because of the barrel. Lingering acid, earthy all the way.
Strong & slow but still good.
Enjoyed the OG more.

Bottle shared by a man named Turd. Chapel Hill August tasting.
Black, oily, lathery mocha lace.
Semisweet nose, oats, earthy, slight savory smoke.
Earthy sweet, mellow soot, chewy grains, faux bourbon, lingering aged hops.
Greasy texture, mid-low carb, strong but good for the style.
Really great.

Stemware at the source. Pretty, hazed, honey gold with stuff white peaks. Grassy, sweet pine & veggie nose. Bittersweet leaning sweet, herbal & a little soapy. Bit of orange on the end. Itchy, full, frothy. Good slosh.

Dimpled Stein at the source. Tall & frothy, dull, cola brown pour. Doughy, saline, pasta water nose. Slightly too sweet & mellow maple. Doughy, mellow earthiness, light menthol hops lingering on the tail. Soft & full carbonation, sanded smooth finish. Good.

4 oz draft. at Schillings Lager Fest. Clean, herbal hop character. Soft, moderately sweet malt. Nice toasted grain character. Moderate spice and a anise like character. Great texture. Earthy finish.

Draught at Schilling, 3/16/24. Clear medium amber. Small, beige head, modest retention. Malty! Brown bread, honey, and crisp yeast to balance. Rich, with light mineral and good acidity. Moderately to lightly malty. Toast, chocolate, caramel all crowd in, though the body doesn't quite stand up. Just a bit lighter than I'd like. Bit too toasty/woody. But the base maltiness is still there and well-done. Lingering mineral, maple, molasses and mild coffee.

Tørst draught, 4/29/23. Clear dark amber. Big, dark beige head, well-retained. Brown bread, honey, light caramel. Herbal hops are light. Dainty, clean. Soft, malty, rich and yet well attenuated. Clean, fresh herbal hops balance. Low minerality but charming base malt.

Torst draught, 4/28/23. Lightly hazy, deep blonde-to-bronze. Small, white head, modest retention. Wow that's lovely. Bright, not piney/resinous. Meyer lemon, strong blood orange. Heavy mineral, chalk, funk. But in a good way. Biscuity malts, sweat, just so saison-like. Amazing to see what you can do with this hop if you try hard. Lemon, lime, ruby red grapefruit. Dry, moderately malty. Good depth. Less funk/complexity than the nose showed but clean and immaculately well-executed. Quenching.
