Description
Otherlands Beer is our funny little family-owned brewery & cafe nestled into the Sunnyland neighborhood of Bellingham, Washington. While we originally conceived of our pub as a cottage in the woods called “Chickens As Friends” that brewed one beer and served food exclusively from our garden, we decided that a cozy 50-seat cafe was a bit more reasonable.

Dreamt up and founded by two brewing and service industry veterans, Karolina Lobrow & Ben Howe, Otherlands Beer is a celebration of easy drinking beer, thoughtful food, and warm hospitality.

At the cafe you’ll find our modest selection of unfiltered lagers, farmhouse ales, and modern American pale ales served fresh from the tap and gravity cask and paired with old-world inspired meals and snacks from our humble kitchen. We invite you to come explore Otherlands with us.

Very pale yellow, opaque, and a big head. Apple, pear sort of fruity hop character. Fruity, medium bitter, some dupont yeast. Touch of acidity from the wheat. Complex and damn tasty.

Pale amber, thick head, has a bit of a yeasty aroma. Gentle, soft body, bitterness is quite low. It’s clean but needs hop. Gentle leafy hop but well below style standards. Not bad mouthfeel, that’s close.

On tap at Otherlands, pours a cloudy bright yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is loaded with dank hops, some light chalkiness, and floral notes. Flavour is gently dank, with floral hops, plenty of citrus and bready malt. A bit harsh on the hops but it comes together OK.

On tap at Otherlands, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of rustic saison yeast, some esters, and some buckwheat. Flavour is quite estery, with rustic saison yeast, lots of esters, and straw. Too estery and lacking farmhouse character, and thus lacking complexity. Not so great.

On tap at Otherlands, pours a clear dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted caramel and toasted nuts. Flavour is malty and gently sweet, with bready malt, toasted caramel and light nuttiness. I could have this drier but it's decently made. Meh.

On tap at Otherlands, pours a clear copper with a medium white head. Aroma is restrained, with light toasted bready malt and straw. Flavour is moderately malt-forward, with bready malt and light toasted caramel. Pleasantly malty and clean, but I'm not as enthused about this one as some of their other lagers.
