On tap at HIred Hands Brewery on 06/17/2018.
Poured into a tulip.
Appearance: light hazy yellow/copper color with a small cap of a little white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: piney, lemony, grapefruity and light orangey hop notes; subtle bready malts
Flavor: wraps up the prior noted aromas to a fine bittersweet to sweet sort of quality; finishes piney and grapefruity with a touch of soap
Texture: light to medium bodied, slightly sessionable; some smoothness but a trickle of some hop bitterness assertiveness
Overall: subtle notes might need to be changed a little bit in this beer; however, it wasn't a bad one to drink down.

Poured into a becher glass.
Appearance: dark red/almost brown color with a quarter finger's worth of off-white foamy head which settled off at a nice pace to leave some light lace
Aroma: caramel/toffee malts, light nuts, earthy hops and a little bit of cocoa powder
Flavor: combines the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to toasty and nutty quality; finishes leaning into the malts, a little bit of those nuts and a slight cocoa powder note
Texture: medium bodied, sessionable; some smoothness and a little bit of dryness
Overall: nicely done amber/red ale with some light chocolatey notes to it.

On tap at Bobcat Cafe & Brewery on 05/27/2016
Appearance: light copper/rustic yellow color with a quarter finger of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: citrusy hops up front and a slight biscuity/bready maltiness underneath
Flavor: combines the previously noted aromas to a bittersweet to bitter quality; finishes citrusy
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable; some smoothness with a little bit of hop bitterness assertiveness
Overall: I see this as an India style lager and I think that's what Hired Hand was going for with this.

Bottle (10/29/20) pour shared by ClarkVV and AirForceHops--thanks, guys! Opaque black with thin head, nice lacing. Aroma is strong dark roasted malts, toffee, pine. Taste is strong dark roasted malts, pine, toffee. Smooth, creamy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Not a barley wine--misnomer?--this is a good black IPA!

Bottle from Bar Antidote. Big thanks to the owner for selling us this. The flavor is of a black IPA. Flavor is chocolate, mild chocolate, and herbal hops. I don’t get any barrel characteristics and this has fresh hops. So if I rate as a black IPA, it is good! Personal note: the is my 1000th Vermont beer! Very fun story.

Bottled 10/29/2020, drunk 8/31/24. Dark maple-char. Still a small, beige head. Clear. Does smell like a dark IPA. Heavily fruity yeast, hints of smoke and caramel with a touch of licorice and toast. Fruity. Zero barrel. Clean, no booze. Chocolatey, malty, black IPA. Fresh PNW hops, lightly bitter. Looking for the bourbon, but there's none. This is fresh and young. Obviously this is not a 2020 bourbon BA Barleywine, but whatever, it's still well-made.

Roasty, chocolate, hops, more like a black ipa than a barleywine. No barrel present.

16 oz draft. Strange aroma of oats with a soft cracker hint. Flavor is the cracker with a very mild hint of butter. Not obnoxious still very drinkable..
