12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled in Sept 2012. Pours lightly hazy copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense off white head with very good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Good soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of apple, pear, caramel, toast, biscuit, raisin, nuttiness, molasses, and herbal spiciness. Ok aromas with decent balance; but they are far too fruity and phenolic. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, pear, apple, nuttiness, molasses, earth, and herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of toast, caramel, biscuit, nuttiness, earth, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very solid balance of flavors with a fairly robust feel; minimal cloying after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy, slick, and crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very solid oktoberfest. Some good flavor balance and robustness; quite easy and smooth to drink. This was pretty enjoyable.

12oz bottle. Pours an attractive copper orange. Thin, patchy, off-white head. Cherry tinged amber malt aroma, very fruity. There is some sourness in this that whispers infection, even through the respectable malt tones. Creamy smooth malt body, a little hefty at times...not really so true to style. Not horrendous but getting there.

Pours an orangeish-copper with smallish head. Aroma is primarily one of malt. Flavor has some nice hoppy bitterness, but overshadowed a bit by the malt--other brewers have done a better job of balancing the two and Atwater should go back to the drawing board.

12oz bottle. Murky, deep red-orange, approaching burgundy. Thin, steady, off-white head. Odd aroma, maybe deteriorated a bit? Resinous, almost burnt smoky hop edge. Bitter orange-pine notes. An awkward IIPA, not really nailing the style. The scorched earthy caramel tones dominate. Not outright bad, but certainly not that respectable of an offering.

tap at Stagshead. Pours jet black with thin brown head. Nose of vanilla and coffee. Tastes of vanilla, coffee, cola, and some herbal qualities. A little thin in palate and finishes sweet.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very fast-dying light brown head. Aroma of cherries, tons of chocolate (55% cacao), robust nuts and earth, vanilla, peat, soap and even a bit of soy sauce - crazy complex. Medium to Full-bodied; Nice malty flavour with some fresh fruits, a bit of raisins, a lot of lactic notes, some vanilla and and a bit of an oaky and whiskey flavour at the finish. Aftertaste is quite complex with a good pit fruit flavour, some chocolate, a lot of roasted malt and a good smoky and peat finish that shows well. Overall, not as full-bodied as most in the style, but showing good flavour complexity still, and definitely worth trying if you can find it. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 28-April-2011 for US$2.79 sampled at home in Washington on the evening the Tigers won the ALDS (in 5 games over Oakland) on 11-October-2012.

Can. Lightly lactic barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Slight sweet barley malt and lightly bitter hay flavor. Okay - nothing special.

Bottle. Strong maple syrup, chocolate, and vanilla aroma. Black brown with a small tan head. Bitter cocoa, vanilla, earthy/roasty flavor... just didn’t quite live up to the aroma. Rather thin watery body. It was good, but I was hoping for something a little more "decadent" than what I got.

Bottle. Faint caramel malt, some light coffee and chocolate aroma. Reminds me more of a roasty amber than a porter. Dark brown with a small tan head. Sweet roasty malt, metallic vanilla, and light ash flavor. Light carbonated body. Generally, thin watery flavor.
