Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is grainy malt with smoke, straw, hint of peat. Flavour is moderate bitter with a little sweetness. Medium body. Good stuff.

Roodbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is krachtig en zoet met iets van chocolade, wat caramel, vanille en rozijn. Echt genieten dit bier.

Xmas bottleshare @ Gijs. 3 yo bottle. Pours a black body and a light beige head. Aroma's of drop/licorice, bay leaves, fruity. Retronasal it's drop, umami. Flavour is moderate sweet, drop, umami. Medium bodied. Finish is roasty and moderate bitter. Probably past its prime, but still enjoyable.

hoptimaal#22 sweet malty and syrupy aroma, has a bit of that arma which i remember from imperial lagers from poland or eastern europe - a barleywine is more often a bit more nutty and a bit less syrupy sweet. Aroma is definitely passable though. flavor is malty, syrupy, cream-caramel , not much else. a no-nonsense barleywine, pretty good sipper, lacks something though to be among the best bw's i've had. On the other hand there are no signs of errors or flaws or crazy stuff going on.
