Another quadrupel I obtained from Smaakhuis early this year, I'm pleased to have it. Best by 16/07/2024. This 33 cl bottle is cooled off considerably, opened now and being tilted into a Delirium snifter. The appearance is a dark brown with red highlights at the edges finished by a healthy head of tawny tan foam. Oh, I like the smell of it. Rich ripe fruit, yeast, candi sugar and scorched grain. The taste follows along with the scent. Figs, baked dark bread, leather, alcohol, some chocolate, plenty of malt, a noticeable bitterness and a small bit of caramel. I would have appreciated a touch more of sweetness. Chewy, a signficantly dense sensation. A fine quad that is short of being special, imho.

Bottle, best before 18-01-2021 so about 9 months past this date. Tasted side by side with a fresh Judocus Inperial Stout which should be the same beer according to man who sold me this beers at the brewery. Color: Almost black, very light brown head. Same as the fresh Judocus only faster disappearing head at the older one. Aroma: Roasted malt, cocoa, black coffee. Also the same as fresh Judocus, only a little more intense at the older one. Taste: Smooth, bit creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malt, dark black coffee, licorice root. Moderate to over moderate sweet, over moderate to medium bitterness. Dry-ish mouthfeel. Long lasting finish. Also the same as fresh Judocus, only less carbonation and a little bit more creamy at the older one. Making the flavours also slightly more intense. Definitely the same beer. same recipe and consistent brew. Just as Judocus this is a nice no nonsense bittery Imperial Stout.

Bottle, directly from.brewery. Color: Black, no head. Aroma: Roasted malt, coffee, sweetish Rum hints. Taste: No carbonation. Roasted malt, coffee notes and quite subtle yet clearly recognizable sweet Rum notes. Hints of licorice. Over moderate sweet, moderate bitterness. Boozy notes at finish. Nice one, but could have had some carbonation in my opinion.

Bottle directly from brewery. Color: Slightly hazy golden, white head. Aroma: Malty, yeasty, sweetish, fruity hints. Taste: Sweetish, malty, yeasty, grainy hints, subtle herbal and fruity notes of apricot. Hoppy background. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Over moderate sweet, light to moderate bitter. Nice Blond, luckily not that sweet and with an ok complexity for this style.
