On tap at flying saucer. Pours a clear orange golden color with a small frothy white head. The aroma is a faint malt with raisin and fruit. The taste is a dry hop, easy to drink. A good blond from southern star.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Has a pale golden color with a small frothy white head. A very faint yeasty malt with wheat grass. The taste is a sweet hop and corn with a bitter finish. A decent Helles from Southern Star.

On tap at the Flying Saucer. Has a cloudy yellow golden with a medium white head. The aroma is a strong bacon and smoke. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is also a strong bacon and sweet ham. A very interesting smoke from Souther Star.

Clear amber with medium off white head. Sweet and hoppy aroma with caramel and citric notes. Sweet flavor with caramel, fruity, piney and hoppy notes. Ends bitter.

Pours with a large, off-white rocky head covering a clear amber body. Great lacing and full retention. Aroma of citrus hops and tangy toffee malts. Taste is malty with a light citrus and floral hop backbone. Creamy mouthfeel. Great Texas beer.

16 oz can from Kaggie; Can’t find a batch number! lightly hazy copper-orange with a big beige head that leaves rings on the glass; Nose of piney hops, caramel, a peachy note with a tiny vanilla undertone; flavor is a light bitterness, caramel, light fruits, and some grapefruit; finish lightly bitter. Now I need to get ahold of a case!

Batch #2. Pour is a hazed orange with ruby highlights, with a three inch tan head. Head falls slowly revealing some nice lacing. There are a few carbonation bubbles floating towards the top. Aroma is very fresh orange ctirus, sweet and juicy. There is also some pine hop present. Under the hop is a bready maltiness which shines trhough nicely. Great nose. Taste is bitter-sweet orange, though in the tast you get as much peel as you do fruitiness. The malt gives it a nice, easy backbone. The finish is bitter, and the bitterness liners a bit. Palate is medium, and holds up nicely to the bold bitterness. 8,4,7,3,15 (3.7)

Batch #3. Pour is a orange ruby, with a three inch tan head. Head falls slowly revealing some nice lacing. There are a few carbonation bubbles floating towards the top. Aroma is musty pine hoppiness with a bready - sweetish maltiness lying below that. Quite a bit flatter, and much less fresh smelling than the #2. Taste is the musty pine hops initially, though they are actually fairly muted. The malt is present, though comes across a bit watery. The orange peel bitterness shows up initially in the finish, which surprised me a bit, since I had not really detected any citrus prior to this. The finish then rounds out to a piney, almost gin like taste. Palate is medium to thin, as mentioned, the malt tasted and felt a bit watery. 6,4,6,3,12 (3.1)

Overall impressions: certainly batch #2 was the better beer. Hopefully Southern Star is able to source the hops they need in the future, as batch #3 was a pretty predestrian beer.

On tap at Flying Saucer - Houston on 07/27/08. Slightly hazy copper body with a small white head. Sweet citrus hop aroma with caramel and pale malts. Citrus hop flavor, some floral, caramel and pale malts. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Thanks to KAggie97 for the beer. The can looks simple, but good. The beer in the glass is quite dark, not much foam. Strong and modest alcoholic aroma. Tastes dry and strong, modest malty, a bit old. Scratchy-strong finish. Not bad!
