Description
In 2010, David and Andy were looking down the barrel of economic downsizing in their industry. Looking at it as an opportunity instead of a problem, the two set out to take their basement hobby to a new level. The dream of all home-brewers; to go "legit" and open a commercial brewery, presented itself as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The two agreed upon a Nano Brewery (1 BBL brewhouse). Although they were hopeful it would be well received, they had no idea the amount of interest the locals had for craft beers. Along the way they found and hired on some awesome people to bring the brewery altogether. Blackrocks still brews beer at the original pub on 3rd St, as well as a 20 BBL production system in Marquette. two key ideas fuel Blackrocks on a day to day basis, always make the best beer possible and always have fun while doing it.

Can to snifter. Red-amber color. Little too sweet (for me), but still a nice sipper. Toffee, caramel, raisin.

12 ounce can. Pours a dark brown color with a small white head. A nice toast and licorice nose. The flavor is roast, dark fruit, caramel, light mint and chocolate. Quite nice. Smooth. Very drinkable. The mint is pretty pronounced in the finish. Flavorful. Solid.

12 ounce can into pint glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light pepper/pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light pepper/pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate herbal/roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light pepper/pine, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from hop/roast bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice American porter style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering that is spot on to style all the way through.

Ever so slightly hazy light copper and orange coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall just off-white head that leaves a super ugly lace on the side of the glass. Aroma of nice fresh PNW hops with cascade the strongest, but also showing some grass and resin! Light-bodied; Strong herbal hoppiness up front with a big grass character and very little else - no malt to speak of and no real complexities. Aftertaste shows the light malt, grass, herbs and touches of resin throughout, but nothing incredible. Overall, a decent Light IPA with a great smell, but a touch disappointing in the real flavours. Still not a bad beer to sample if you can get it! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 11-September-2015 for US$2,09 sampled at home in Washington on 26-January-2016.

Several straight from the can and several poured to shaker and pints. Lemony-gold, clean, bright. Crisp on palate with a smooth. Mild hops, mild bitterness.

Willrunforbeer cracks another 12 oz can, thanks man! Color is a Amber with no head. Aroma shows me mild dark fruits, sugar coated plums, raisins and toffee. Brown sugar.

The flavor is heavy on dark fruit and sugar notes. Lots of figs and candied plums. I think the coolest thing is that the booze is hidden but under this much sweetness that is understandable. The body is medium with a sticky, syrupy texture. For a very young barley wine it is pretty drinkable, as drinkable as a young barley wine can be. I guess you SHOULD store this in your gnome hole!

Willrunforbeer shares another 12 oz can. Somewhat cloudy gold color with weak head, slow steady carbonation level. Aroma is a hearty a,pint of fruits, peach, pear lemons and oranges. Light mail sweetness bit more fruity then malty. Notes of grain.

The flavor is contrasting with citrus, herbal notes and maybe a grassy note. It also has a light hint of pine in here. The Galaxy hop comes off in different tones depending on the grains used. The body is lighter and crisp. Overall this is above average for a session and has a solid amount of flavor for such a lower ABV gravity. Nicely constructed brew.
