Coreff
Regional Brewery
in Carhaix-Plouguer,
Bretagne,
France 🇫🇷
Associated Venue: Coreff
Established in 1985
In 1985, it actually took courage, and a lot of conviction, to launch a Breton beer with a Breton name (Coreff = beer in Breton). When from the 1990s, the tide turns and announces the revival of Breton culture, Coreff naturally benefits. Even today, drinking Coreff is a militant gesture (or militrant as we say at Coreff). Against the standardization of taste and for a different conception of consumption.

Bottle @ First Official Randers Tasting. Pours hazy orangeish amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, wth touches of caramel and dust and hints of hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with grainy notes and touches of malt and subtle hints of fruit. Bitter and slightly vinous aftertaste. Better than the non-bio ambrée version but nothing mind-blowing.

Bottle @ First Official Randers Tasting. Pours clear amber with airy but stable off-white head. CLear aroma of malt, yeast, caramel and fruit. Bitter, hoppy onset, giving way to rather weak, sweetish notes of malt and caramel. Estery and sour-sweetish aftertaste. Very high carbonation. Not very impressive but definitely drinkable.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 08/2016, thanks Marduk, 20141227) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had sweetness, something metallic, yeast and green apples. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, malts, yeast, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste had sweetness, alcohol and bitterness. A messy brew with Belgian yeast.

0,33L bottle, BB 08.2016. Pours dark amber with small off-white head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is sweet, fruits, malt, dirty water. Flavor is sweet, malt, caramel, spices, metallic, and dirty water. Overall: I don’t know what’s wrong with these brews, but without the "dirty water" feeling (the same disgusting notes were present in coreff blanche and brune, but not in blonde) it would get higher rating. (Ohh and current style is APA?! You’ll be very disappointed, if you expect to find typical APA here.)
