Mother Kelly’s. Keg. Clear dark amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth but has a livening fine carbonation. Smooth malts, mellow dark chocolate. Touch of milk chocolate. Mild coconut brings a little Bounty Bar. Smooth finish. Chocolate lingers on. Nice.

Keg at the Euston tap. Hazed pink/ peach/ orange coloured pour with a lasting thin white head. Aroma is tart berry, stale wheat, grain husks, woody. Flavour is raspberry, stale grains, wheat, white chocolate cheesecake, grainy. Palate is light sour, spritzy carbonation, super dey finish. Lingering Apple and grain husks. Meh. Disappointing. Some butertic acid maybe.

Keg at the Old Red Cow, Smithfield. Dark (but not darkest) brown, translucent with little head or visible carbonation. Bready, smoky and meaty aroma, with cafe au lait sitting alongside sweet herbs and coconut. Sweet and savoury taste. Hints of pumpernickel, bone marrow, malt. Gentle finish, body isn’t particularly full but it’s a good feel all the same. Strange beer. I appreciate uniqueness in a recipe but the singularity of the sensations impeded my enjoyment.

Keg at Ask For Janice, Smithfield. Deep gold with a bit of off-white head. Heady malt dominates the smell, along with some tangerine notes. Sweet, malty and heavily spiced taste. The end is a bit of a let down as an unbalanced sweet/sour ushers in a truncated finish. I also would have liked a fuller body but hey ho. Pretty good beer although far from perfect.

Well & Bucket. Keg. Hazy amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy with a fine crispness. Mildly sweet malts that have a little German like nutty character. The malt just about keeps the bitter orange peel hops in check. Light bitter finish. Serviceable.
