Bottle: Picked this up at the DMZ. Straight from the first pop I thought this could be interesting. The flood of skunk cock filled the room. Poured a clear golden color with huge white foam head, that seemed to not stop. The aroma seemed of stale sour grain. The flavor and taste however was not bad as it had metallic grain and fresh grass, a little watery. Not bad for as little as there is from North Korea.

Clear golden coloured body with a light white head. Aroma of oddness - old malt, stale corn, metal and tin - nothing pleasant at all. Light-bodied; Strong pungent metal and tin flavours with some stale malt and very light hops and sugars. Aftertaste is strong and unpleasant - too much funky malt. Overall, a pretty bad beer, but I was pretty much expecting this! Obviously, I sampled this one just because it was the only beer on the menu from North Korea - just to have sampled a beer from here! I sampled this odd (large) sized bottle purchased at a bar in the Itaewon area of Seoul, South Korea in July 2006.

Bottled. A golden beer with a OK light orangey head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of metal, and so is the flavor, though added a light note of caramel. Thanks ompher for sharing.

Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival 2007 afterfestival at Per’s
Blond color. The aroma, light, has light veggies too. The rest is useless, not even bitter.

Golden color, small white head. Grassy hoppy nose. Sweet corn/rice grain flavor. Quite "normal" low quality lager from poor country.

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Pale golden colour with small white head. Aroma & flavour is maize, butter and some hayish notes. Also a bit of malt. Not very exciting, but also this was a nice country to rate .)

Bottled, thanks Bov! Pale golden, rich head. Appley aroma. Sweet and buttery, medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Finishes with low bitterness. A malt sweet standard lager with little to separate it from lagers elsewhere. At least it has more substance than it’s counterparts in South Korea.

Medium white lasting head. Clear yellow body. Sweetish malty aroma with a touch of honey or grape juice. Taste is sweet malts with floral hop background. Grainy aftertaste. A bit watery. No off taste. Faint bitterness. Decent. (0.5l bottle.)

First of all, thanks to everyone who made this rating possible - Simon, Mark, Andre and of course Kim Jong-Il, who had the vision to purchase the Usher’s brewery to improve the Pyongyang beer scene.

Light amber colour. Faint whisp of head dies quickly. Industrial-sized bubbles. The aroma is clean, mainly biscuity pale malt. The flavour is fairly clean as well, still leaning towards the malt, though it’s not as expressive as in the aroma. The beer is fairly sweet and full-bodied. The hops are restricted to a background earthy note. Yes, it looks terrible, but its one of the most enjoyable pale lagers in its weight class.
