Description
The family farm in Bellaghy, County Derry, that was previously home to the late poet Seamus Heaney and inspired him endlessly, is now also home to an on-site microbrewery. Heaney Brewery was set up by Malcolm McCay and his wife Suzanne, who is a niece of Seamus, in early 2019.

Heaney initially launched four beers on the market in 2016 using facilities at Boundary Brewing.

Bottle from Beer52. Orange-gold with small white head. Aroma of wheat, coriander, corn, citrus zest. Taste is grainy, stewed veg, coriander, citrus zest and nice grassy bitterness. Near medium bodied, slick, zingy carbonation. A bit of a mixed bag for me.

On tap at Sunflower. Pours a clear pale yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has strong earthy straw with some hay and earthy grain backing. Flavor has strong bread and straw notes with just a hint of grass coming through.

Can from Beer52 brewed/canned by Full circle. It pours darkest brown to black with a decent brown head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, chocolate bourbons and some toasted pine. The taste is dry, bitter, dark roasted malt, coffee grounds, dark chocolate, charred pine, burnt toast, touch of spice and tannin with a drying, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate fluffy carbonation. Robust and satisfying. Good stuff.
