Description
Bear Claw is a small brewery in Berwick-upon-Tweed that focuses on fermentation in oak.
All our beers are fermented in ex-wine barrels.
We barrel-age some of our beers, but our main vibe is the use of oak barrels as a standard fermentation vessel. All of our pale ales, IPAs, stouts, saisons etc are served mild after around 4-6 weeks conditioning.
We rarely bottle or can our beers, mostly they're served draught in the brewery on our open days.

750ml bottle from brewery (Gyle 588) - Deep brown, big lasting tan head. Good roasted chocolate bean flavour, molasses and dark fruits. Lush mouthfeel, a lot more boozy than expected (this is the 8.2% version), feels closer to 10% than 8%. Excellent!

Growler from brewery with friends - hazy amber body, leaves a thin one on top. Nose is Belgische gist, bananen, kruiden en kruidnagel. Taste has the yeast at the front, nice herby hit and fresh on the way out. Very good effort.

Bottle. A Christmas present off the missus. From Beer Zoo. Soft haze on a pale gold. Swirl of white. Nose has lemon brett. Cooking apple. Apple stalk. Old oak. Leather. Very gueuze like. Taste is crisp, tart, and dry. Soft, apple like sweetness. Super clean on the palate. Fine carbonation. Dry and light tart finish. Great beer.
