Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 3/3/2015. Deep gold with a slight, white, head. Sweetish, creamy, malts, with a touch of citrus fruit and hint of grassy hop, leading to a moderately bitter finish. Fine.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 5/3/2015. Almost black in colour, with a thin, beige, head. A tasty, dense, stout, with plain chocolate, liquorice and toasted malts, ending up with a dryish finish. Very good.

On cask @ Holyrood 9A. Appearance - deep amber with a nice frothy head. Nose - a mixture of biscuity malt and red fruits, maybe even some marmalade. Yep, it’s jammy dodgers. Taste - more jammy dodgers, but using hobnobs as the biscuit. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - yes, very nice example of the style.

On cask @ the Standing Order. Appearance - deep amber to chestnut. Nice fluffy head. Nose - toffee with just a sniff of stewed prunes. Taste - i was right. Stewed prunes on the taste too. Toffee in the background. Palate - close to medium bodied with a rich and sweet but tangy texture and a balanced sweet finish. Overall - nice beer.

On cask @ the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - close to opaque black with some orange chinks. Nice head. Nose - major concentrated orange juice note, some roast but you have to search for the chocolate and it’s not necessarily there. Taste - more concentrated orange, like orange liqueur in fact. Cointreau. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and finish that is unfortunately too sweet. Overall - I’m not really getting the malt and hops. The orange is too dominant.

Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 3 - London. Pours black-brown with a foamy tan head. Rich and roasty, viscous and silky, with nice chocolate character, burnt earth bitterness. Medium bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Ashy roast on the finish, some more cocoa, bittersweet chocolate. Good one.
