Keg at BD Castlegate. It pours like motor oil... opaque darkest brown to black with a small deep brown head. The aroma is rich and pungent, bitter - sweet, very dark roasted malt, quite savoury, umami, liquorice allsorts, vanilla fudge, toasted marshmallow, fragrant, angelica, juniper berry, dark chocolate torte, nutty, woody and boozey vibes. The taste is mouth-coating slickness, thick, oily, unctuous, rich dark roasted malt, umami, liquorice, savoury character, washed process coffee with vibrant acidity, chewy, cacao nibs, premium dark chocolate, well judged booze, fragrant spice, angelica and star anise. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and slick mouth feel. I really like the dept of flavour and balance to this. A proper grown up imperial stout with limited sweetness or novelty.
