Bottle from Landbierparadies, Nurnberg. Slightly cloudy, golden colour with a moderate white head. This was more like a pilsner. Aroma of hay, with a flavour of sweet malt and a semi-dry finish. Dull.

(On tap) Slightly hazy, reddish amber - "schwarz" is a bit far from the truth - with an off-white head. Lightly caramelish aroma. Medium body, a bit flat, with lightly sweet caramel malt and a light bitter finish. 111106

Gravity (@ Schwarzer Keller, Weigelshofen): Dark amber coloured, thin off-white layer; caramelly, a bit toasted aroma, shy hoppiness detectable; slightly sweetish-malty taste, becoming drier towards the first malty, than drier lingering hoppy finish. Soft MF. A good franconian brew !

(On tap) Beautiful, clear orange with a small, off-white head. Sweetish, malty nose - very classical Bock character. Rather full-bodied with tons of malt, lightly sweet caramel malt that never gets sticky because of the balancing dry hops. No fuss, a very straight and excellent Bock. 111106

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours amber with a slight haze and a handsome, thick and creamy head with good retention. Sweetish, malty nose with a weak, sourish edge. Full-bodied with plenty of roasted malt. Not completely fresh I’m afraid. 5/4/5/2/10=2.6 190206

Draft. A dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel combined with lighter notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of caramel and a hint of alcohol as well as berries, leading to a dry bitter finish. OK, but not the best bock.

From the tap (at the brewery): Straw coloured, lasting head; shy malty nose with distinctive hoppy, aromatic notes, also a tinge of honey; mild malty beginning, medium bodied, creamy texture leading to a slightly bitter aftertaste; very well quaffable......
