Description
The brewery is located in Malý Rohozec, near Turnov, less than a hundred kilometers northeast of Prague. The local romantic region, located on the middle course of the Jizera River, has been called the Bohemian Paradise since the 19th century. It is a region of natural beauty, castles, chateaux, museums and traditional crafts. And also good people, and these people produce good beer for you in the traditional way: Beer of the Paradise. Not only the locals, but also visitors to the Bohemian Paradise, tourists, climbers and other nature lovers, SKALÁK beer and the sandstone rock town in the Hruboskalsko region are connected. The beautiful, picturesque nature and pleasant, fresh taste of Skalák and Podskalák simply belong together.

After the end of communism and the split of Czechoslovakia, the brewery came into private hands in 1994 who however without the know-how for running a brewery. This resulted in bankruptcy in 2002, the brewery was very outdated and the debt burden very high and yet it was taken over. The production process was examined and everything was renewed, resulting in a high quality of brewed beer.

Bottle from Albert in Svobody in Cheb. FIrst time I saw it. And then I saw it again... two days ago at my local Albert in Prague. Damn. So, this is a clear ripoff of Žatec Celia - but a legitimate and smart one, as Celia, what with Carlsberg closing the old Žatecký pivovar, is gone. Clear golden body, thick whiteish head. Odd aroma, parizer (baloney), umami, tomato touches. Weirdly not unpleasant just something I'd expect from a tomato gose or michelada, not a Czech lager. Lean, dry, mildly bitter taste with a decent herbal hoppy touch, surprisingly enough, and again that weird umami out of place touch, though thankfully, more bearable than the aroma, light green fruit touch too sadly. I mean, this actually works - at least, fresh-seeming like it is. I kinda don't want to try this old though. Still, an improvement on my memory of Celia (slightly unfair though it may be). If I had to heavily avoid gluten, well, I might consider it.

Golden colour, rocky head that disappears after a while, poor lacing. Aroma is butterscotch, malt, white bread crust, a bit of grassy hops. Light bitterness. Lively carbonation. Too buttery and overcarbonated, boring.
