From the bottle at the Chinatown taproom. Flat, dark brown with orange tints, cloudy. Nose is treacle, port, vanilla, oak. Super sweet and rich treacle and caramel, vinous, vanilla, strong oak presence that almost balances the sweetness. Not a lot of hops. Very tasty, tons of port cask influence.

On tap in Chinatown. Bright golden color, clear golden color with a medium head. Nose is all Nelson hops: white grape, citrus, light spice, clean malt. Light, snappy body and flavor with that rounded malt from cold fermentation, low esters, nice hops.

Dark brown, brown sugar, bourbon, the barley wine lends fruitiness but this has a lot of sugar. Great balance. Is that brandy barrel? Excellent.

Dark brown, thin head. Lots of vanilla/strawberry on this. Super rich base, light coffee, some char, fuckload of vanilla, mild strawberry, bourbon. High quality dark sugars. Yeah, it’s top shit.

Dark brown, no head. Okay the bourbon really unlocks new levels in this beer. Same rich sugars, vanillins, tannins, just the extra layer complexity to an already delicious beer.

2025. Dark brown, bubbly head. Sweet, oily, some great dark sugar notes, a bit of alcohol, nice coffee…the way this works with the sugars is kind of like one of the unflavoured Mr Brown coffees.

Draught at Gourmet Haus as part of SoCal Day for SF Beer Week. Fine beer, and don’t love it as much as some of the other Westies.
