Description
Founded in 2012, we’re a craft microbrewery located in a historic 100-year-old bakery called The Bread Box on West 6th Street in Lexington, Kentucky. We brew and can our beer out of that location, and it’s sold at bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and liquor stores throughout the state of Kentucky (and across the river in Cincinnati, OH). We pride ourselves on the beers that we make and the impact we have on the communities we’re a part of.

We focus our brewing talents on a wide variety of beers – we produce and can styles ranging from our flagship West Sixth IPA, to our Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter. In our taprooms in downtown Lexington, we have 15-20 West Sixth varieties on tap, along with occasional special bottle releases from our Sixfold and Barrel-aged series. Now a team of more than 40, we focus on brewing beers with quality and creativity that we’re proud to serve to our friends, and most importantly, that we like to drink!

That said, we measure our success as a company not just on the beer that we make, but also on our social impact in the communities we’re a part of. We support the direct work of nonprofits in our area through programs like our Pay it Forward program and 6th for a Cause. We are environmentally conscious in everything we do (did you know nationwide, 70% of aluminum is recycled and only 20% of glass is?). And finally, we strive to be an awesome place to work, offering discounted CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) benefits, private staff yoga classes, and employee ownership.

Draft at J’s. Pours a deep brown with a half a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Good lacing the whole way down. Prune, raisin, booze, chocolate and zucchini bread aromas. As it warms the booze starts to hide. Pretty smooth. Light bodied on the palate. Finishes hoppy bitterness, raisin, wood and a warming character. Pretty solid.

Tap at J’s West Sixth tap-takeover. Pours a clear gold with a tiny white head that dissipates quickly. Good yeast character: pear, lemon candy nose. Low carbonation, a tad sweet with a touch of tartness. A bit sweet and missing some of that classic saison carbonation and dryness but a nice effort.

Tap at J’s West Sixth tap takeover. Pours a deep gold to light orange with a finger of foam that lingers. Big simcoe nose. Pineapple, citrus and light dank notes. Slightly earthy with some faint onion. Good body, good carbonation. Well-balanced with the simcoe really shining throughout. A big improvement on the regular IPA. --- Beer merged from original tick of Second Fiddle Simcoe IPA on 21 Jan 2017 at 19:58 - Score: 8. Original review text: Big simcoe nose. Pineapple, citrus and light dank notes. Slightly earthy with some faint onion. Good body. I love simcoe!

Tap at J’s West Sixth tap-takeover. Pours a clear, pale straw with a finger of foam that dissipates. Crackery malts, light lemon on the nose. Clean and crisp on the palate. Good carbonation, grassy hop finish. Just a faint hint of peppercorn on the finish. Very well done for a Kentucky pils.
