Mini growler from Altamont. It pours dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is strong with peanuts and chocolate. Not too sweet smelling with hints of roasted malt. The flavor is again, very nutty with some cola notes on the palate and minor notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Very soda-like on the palate actually with more roast and peanuts in the finish. Body is a bit lacking. Not bad, but it could have been better.

On draft at Altamont. It pours a clear light amber/orange color with an off white head. The aroma has a good amount of barrel, although it comes across as more bourbon than wine with vanilla, light caramel, tart plum and funky, fruity esters. The flavor is great. Light funk and tartness with plum and orange fruitiness up front followed by funk and bourbon/wine barrel notes. The finish is tart, fruity and phenolic with medium bitterness that turns slightly acrid at the finish which is the only thing keeping this from being a top notch sour for me. Rich Mahogany is a pretty bitter beer, so they may have been better served crafting a recipe specifically for souring, but its still not bad at all, in fact its pretty tasty. The bitterness does meld nicely with the phenols. Not as good as their Funky Operator, but still quite solid.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours amber/gold with a white head. Aroma of floral/spicy/fruity hop. Med body. Flavor is floral/spicy, with some mixed fruits. Probably with citrus. It’s not dank, but it has something rather similar. It’s really tasty, and finishes towards bitter, but not very. Never noticed any heat.

On nitro at Altamont. It pours light brown with a creamy, light khaki colored head. The aroma is mostly toasted malt with light hints of roast and chocolate. The raspberries come out much stronger in the flavor, but still rather subtle. Lots of toast, light coffee and cocoa with a mildly tart and toasty, raspberry finish. Subtle but good. It has a relatively light yet oily body.

On tap at Altamont. It pours a very dark mahogany/brown color with a light tan head. The aroma has a great balance of chocolate, coffee and toasted bread. Nice. The flavor is very toasted with a solid malt profile and hints of coffee and cocoa. Full bodied with a hint of acidity and roasted malt in the finish. The English yeast Altamont uses is perfect for this kind of beer. Great stuff if you like Brown Ales.

Draft. Dark mahogany beer with a dark cream head. Malt and light nutty aroma. Grapefruit and nutty malt flavor with light pine. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and nutty malt lingers with light pine and light caramel.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and light tropical fruit aroma with pine. Pine and grapefruit flavor with light earthiness. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Pine and earth linger with grapefruit.
