The first record of the inn and brewery “Zum goldenen Engel” in Crailsheim from 1738 reads “annual production volume 150 buckets.” In 1877 George Fachs becomes the new owner of the brewery. The Fachs family still owns - now in the fifth generation - the brewery. In 1984 Engel becomes the first German brewery to bottle Radler. Since the turn of the millennium, Engel-Biermanufaktur has developed into a specialty brewery that regularly receives awards for its beers.

(bottle) Clear golden colour with a foamy medium head. Malty aroma, almost corny and citric notes. Also malty, quite sweetish start with a slight hoppy finish. I don´t like it, but it is anyway drinkable.

(bottle) Red to amber colour with a medium, slightly off-white frothy head. Sweet malty aroma with caramel and a touch of hops. Well-balanced initial soft sweet maltiness, hoppines, well-integrated alcohol and a smooth bitter finish with a touch of caramel.

(bottle) Deep golden colour with a medium foamy yellow head. Sweet, but shy malty nose with traces of alcohol. Smooth malty flavour and taste, not too alcoholic and with a slight hoppy finish; medium to full bodied. Although I was disappointed by the Engelbräu collection so far, the Bock beers are quite drinkable.

Bottle: hazy, golden, almost orange colour; thin, white fluffy head; shy fruity nose; full bodied, well rounded brew, gentle and pleasant in the mouth; the initial malty sweetness (some hints of caramel) ends in a bitter sweet finish. Quite good.

(bottle) Clear golden colour with foamy white head. Malty aroma and taste with little hoppy finish. A little more acidity would have gave the light to medium body a bit more profundaty.
