6 pack of can consumed from 6/18-6/24/15
Clear, drab olivine/mahogany brown beer has a greyish-tan head atop that is large and slowly recedes to cover.
Moderately acidic roast in the nose has strong hints of trreacle, molasses and some sweeter brown sugar notes, with a cascade/centennial-like hoppiness that is assertive but not overdone. Light minerals, some hints of astringency/heavily grainy barley and a hard-to-put-my-finger-on earthiness all give this brown ale more character than your typical English brown ale. No alcohol or flaws.
Brown sugar-like sweetness up front quickly passes in to a molasses dryness with light acidity coming from the roasted barley and hints of hazelnut and vanilla add complexity. Every time it begins to get sweet, the acidity/dryness clears the palate on the end and allows for continued enjoyment. Lightly chewy, amply carbonated texture is supportive of the malt while the hops slowly build up on the palate, building towards a more dry beer as the glass gets lower. Shockingly easy to drink and clean all around. For this being one of my most despised styles, I was rather impressed with this one. Ex-Smutty/Portsmouth brewer obviously doing good things here, and I hope to get some of their special release wild ales and what not which look quite interesting.

Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours a cloudy orange copper with large frothy white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is wood, funk, leather. Thin mouth, wood, dark fruit, light tartness, decent.

Tap at Jimmy’s 43 hazy orange beer. Nose is ginger and some citrus. Tastes of loads of ginger upfront but that fades as you drink. Also you get oranges, light earth, resin, caramel. Mostly ginger though. Slihhy boozy.

Lots of candy - almost tastes like a pumpkin beer with the spice aroma going on here. Lots of resin. Pours amber with ok head and lacing. Lots of oak and booze and not super well-balanced. Very sweet finish and thick, syrupy pour. Tap at Ginger Man NYC.
