Location: Sampled at the NY Brewfest on Governor's Island, 6/19/10
Aroma: It has a nose of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and some bourbon
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a lighter brown head
Flavor: The taste is on the sweet side for the style, vanilla, a little caramel
Palate: It has a really good drinkability to it, it is smooth and creamy with a good mouthfeel
Overall Impression: There are not a lot of ratings on this one thus far, but it was pretty good stuff. I like it when little breweries like this (nothing with more then 10 ratings), make solid beers instead of just producing the same boring pale ale and wheat as every other brewery their size.

Tap at Governors Island BrewFest. Pours a cloudy, yellow-gold with a medium white head. Lots of spices in the aroma with hints of wheat and honey. Flavor is sweet with more spices, faint bitterness and Belgian character. Light to medium in body with lively carbonation. Finishes sweet with spice notes. Pretty good.

Tap at Governors Island BrewFest. Black-brown, oily pour with shiney highlights and a strong, beige head. Heavy roasted malt aroma, with notes of chocolate, coffee, light smoke, bourbon and subtle vanilla. Flavor is rich, very sweet, with lots of chocolate, less coffee, good dry roast, and hints of vanilla most acute towards the end. Full bodied with average carbonation and a smooth texture. Lightly warming. Finishes sweet and roasty with modest dryness. Really good.

Tap at Governors Island BrewFest. Pours an amber-gold with a mild, white head. Earthy hop aroma with slight notes of citrus and caramel. Flavor is pretty well balanced with light malty sweetness, slight spices and herby hops. Medium balanced with full carbonation. Finishes lightly hoppy and fairly short. Not bad. This was my first California Common, so my basis for comparison is admittedly limited.

An amber ale with a thick off white head. Ina roma, classy caramel malt with nice hops. In mouth, a good crisp malt with British hops, classic and pleasant. Tap at BCTC 2009.
