(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 19 Feb 2016) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, cacao, sticky chocolate cake and a generous roasty bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. A bit too sweet for an imperial stout, but really tasty with lots of chocolate. Very nice.

Tap @ Arendsnest, sample size. Clear dark red-brown color. Dense beige head with reasonable retention. Aroma’s of toasted bread, light drop/licorice, some laurel/bay leaves. Retronasal it’s droppy, sugar, light red fruit. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, malty. Medium bodied. Not much going on in the finish. OK quad. Oh, wait...

Bottle (from hetbiermoment.nl). Pours dark brown without head. Aroma is peanut butter, malt, caramel. Flavor is sweet, malt, dark fuits, plums, slight sour-acidic notes. Finish is malty. Carbonation is soft, almost flat. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: in hedonistic scale it’s ok, but as far as craft of brewing goes this feels flawed.

9/9/11/11/10/11

Sampled @ Pint Winterbierfestival Gouda, 2016. Nice clear deep dark red color, virtually no head. Smell and taste lightly malts, sweet, sweet fruit and some candy even. Slight bitter finish. Decent body and quite soft carbonation. Not bad, but a bit too sweet for my liking.

Bottle sample at PINT Winterbierfestival ’16. Dark old chestnut brown colour, no head. Aroma is sweet, cooked dark fruits, spicy, molasses. Flavour is quite sweet, lots of molasses, some cough syrup, light spicy, dark fruits, hint of roast and chocolate, bittersweet finish. Full bodied, sticky, oily, almost flat. Pleasant surprise. Would say this is an Old Ale.
