Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.

In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.

Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Half-pint, cask ale at Ivory Peg (JDW). Shared with Cunningham. Filmy layer, fair lacing, clear copper coloured body. Mild malt-fruity aromas. Slightly marmalade flavours, toffee and berries. Subdued bittersweet ending. Okay with the English breakfast (Chelmsford 19.02.2017).

Clear nutty color with no head. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium light body and a flat carbonation level. Moderate sweet and a mild bitterness. Caramel malty, some toffee and mild fruity flavor. Not very inviting this.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 8/2/2017. Amber in colour, with a moderately-sized, off-white, head. Sweet and rather thin-bodied bitter, with ripe cereals, a touch of hedgerow fruit and abrupt finish. So so.

Another fairly standard golden ale, but lifted by an underlying and rather pleasant fruitiness. It was also very thirst quenching.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. An amber pour with a loose white head; light berry fruit aroma; thin in the mouth with a berry fruit taste; followed by a short grassy bitterness; then a sweet fruity finish. Rather average.

Bottle from Kris Wines. A bit tangy, but for an old ale, not out of place. Initial sweet aroma, recalls a cola. Taste puts it more into context, sweet, but with a nice malt profile behind it. Seems light, sweetness lingers. Hoping for a bit more bitterness or substance, like Theakston. Not so, just sweet, without the oomph.
