Rye whisky barrel aged stout commemorating a Russian-American pioneer in the commercial development of the helicopter... Bomber from Bierhalle Deconinck shared with Steve. Frothy, mousy, membrane-lacing, mocha-beige head on a black beer with thin hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of very strong black coffee powder, walnut liqueur, bitter unsugared black chocolate, black pipe tobacco, whisky, beef stock, dried juniper berries, pine needles, incense, cigars, haemoglobin, fresh paint, shoe polish. Dried-fruity onset, medlar, dried apple peel and something dimly sourish, lively carbonated (a bit stinging even) for the style, oily body, feeling full; bitter-black-chocolatey, roasted-walnutty core, restrained in sweetness but developing pronounced black coffee-like roasted bitterness and increasing spiciness, reminiscent of dried thyme, nutmeg, fresh bayleaf and black tea, probably partially coming from the rye whisky; blood-like haemoglobin aspect too, along with a roasted chicory-like, mouth-filling, strong burnt bitterness accentuated by a whisky-like glow, while woody tannins remain rather subtle. Very edgy, spicy and rather dry for an imperial stout the American way, feels a bit old school in that sense, but to me that certainly does not mean less enjoyment - 'au contraire', I would almost add. Connecticut's Two Roads in its most audacious mode compared with other beers I had from them - one could wonder if Evil Twin's involvement has something to do with this - but I love it!

Grapefruit and other citrus flavor. Pith and zest flavor with lemongrass and other earthy and citrus flavors. Sour palate of grapefruit.

Pithy grapefruit nose. Opaque orange, medium head, good retention. Grapefruit, grass. Medium body, easy carbonation. Hoppy and juicy but not too sweet.

From a pint can. Pours a pale gold with a quickly receding off white head. Aromas are metallic limes. Flavors are slightly tart lime and salt - just add tequila.

Slightly hazy pale golden coloured body with a relatively thick tan and cream coloured head, about three to four centimetres tall that's relatively microfoamed, and also leaves a nice lace on the sides. Aroma of bitter and dank hops throughout, with some pine, flowers, grass, grapefruit, white grape juice and light soap as well, but not much malts and an odd dose of sweetness in the nose. Medium-bodied; Relatively strong, floral and biting dry herbal notes show at first, with a lot of fruitier notes, like white grape juice, guava and even starfruit noticeable, with a dash of stone fruits as well, without much other sweetness and no real malt, body or backbone to support the hops and fruity characteristics that aren't very bitter, but they are flavourful and thin/simplistic. Aftertaste shows more of the pure hoppy notes with fruit flavours, but again, no yeast, no sweetness, no real complexity and no malts. Overall, even though they threw in the figurative kitchen sink, nothing really stuck or was worthwhile, as this seems a jumbled mess of hops, without balance, support or complexity...nice to try, but not a good IPA in really any sense. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 24-October-2020 for US$4,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 25-November-2020.

Pint can, WW. Ugly murky orange-brown with a soft off-white head. Nose is citrus peel, tropical fruit, light coffee. Flavor is orange peel, pineapple, rubbing alcohol, green leaf, then finishes with just a little more than a hint of coffee, then some herbalness. Odd, intriguing.

Pours amber with a thick white head. Aroma of pine resin, lemon peel. Taste has tons of tropical fruit notes, papaya, guava, citrus, some melon, resin, hints of cedar. Palate has more cedar on the nose, somewhat sour malt, little bit of bitterness. Pretty good for a low-cal.

Pours deep reddish copper with a frothy white head. Aroma of nondescript malt. Taste has caramel, sweet malt, mildly nutty, spruce/evergreen, slightly boozy. Palate has evergreen note on nose, caramelized malt. Interesting.
