30 November 2018. Billie's Craft Beer Fest. Cheers to Anke, tderoeck & 77ships! Hazy dark amber/brown with a lasting, thin, off-white head; some lacing. Aroma of ripe banana & plum, dough, peach, pear syrup, sweetbread, caramel. Taste is medium malty sweet, caramelly & dough-like, some plum & red grape; builds up a rather firm medium herbal bitterness, hint of green tea, a bit grassy; faintly lemony sour in the back. Dyrish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering dough, caramel, even a tad too bitter for my liking. Subtle warming liqueur alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Decent, expected a bit more.

Thanks! Sampled draft @ Billie’s Beer Festival 2018. Day 2. Amber orange. Nose is nicely old school, dank, grapefruit peel. Fizzy, bitter, proper old school West Coast, nice bitter grapefruit peel, lively pine, tasty.

Intended as a West Coast double IPA, made in Spain, sampled at Billie’s Craft Beer Fest (thanks to the brewer). Creamy and thick, egg-white, membrane-lacing head over misty apricot blonde beer with ‘old gold’ hue. Rich and intense nose of lychee, pink grapefruit, light pine resin, lime, granadilla, dough. Sweetish and lightly sourish onset, medium carbonated, fruity with lovely, colourful lychee, apricot and mango aspects flanked by subtle mineraliness; soft, bready maltiness soaked in a citrusy but also tropical-fruity, mango-ish hoppiness, highly aromatic with only a light dash of old school pine; juicy maltiness and warming alcohol peeping through. Excellently made DIPA – but as it turns out, much more an East Coast style IPA than a classic West Coast one, for which it lacks cleanness, pineyness, ‘resinousness’ and downright bitterness… It seems that not many of these young European craft brewers are familiar with the type of IPAs that came out the U.S. twenty years ago, understandably, which makes me feel old.
