Bottle date 19 NOV 2004 This was topped by a light brown head of average size. Lacing the glas as it fell into an opaque black body. Mild coffee and sour cherry aroma. Well balanced flavor with a dry chalky finish. Not a bad winter brew, but Imperial Stout?

Bottled. Black, small head. Fruity licorice aroma. Sweet and very roasty with lots of coffee. Clean, raw mouthfeel, really bitter finish. Sugary and unrefined.

Clearish orange body, thin light cream head. Aroma of candy, light fruit, caramel, and sharp alcohol notes. Very thin-bodied with big alcohol flavors, strong oak and vanilla, light fruits and sharp, sweet caramel and brown sugars. The alcohol seemed unduly harsh. Perhaps this suffers a bit in my rating because it was sampled right after trying Alesmith BA Old Numbskull. Still a decent barleywine despite its flaws. Thanks Ben (Brodie) and Beth (BelgianGirl) for the sample!

Pitch black coloured body, about 90% opaque. Smallish brown coloured head that fades quickly and is gone in a few seconds. Aroma of fresh hops, cardboard, roasted malt, coffee and a bit of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Sweet taste up front with an odd fakeness followed by a maple or honey taste. Aftertaste shows a lot of roasted malt and some bitter sugars. Overall, a decent beer, but all said, one of my least favourite imperial stouts in a long time. I was really happy when I read the back of the bottle this year, but this is less than satisfying. Good thing I still have some Polish Porters from last year left. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle brewed on 29-October-2004, purchased at Wegman’s in Sterling, Virginia as Old Dominion’s Winter Brew (for 2004).

Crystal clear golden coloured body with orange highlights and a thin white head. Aroma of strong citrus hops with some light fruit sugars, alcohol and some malt. Medium to Full-bodied; Potent hoppiness and a decent sweetness with honey notes and a malt backbone. Aftertaste clean-some hoppiness showing, but not a lengthy bitterness. Overall, a good imperial pilsner; Definitely one to try! Thank you to Phil (haddon90) for giving me this bottle. I was out of town (at college) when it came out, but he saved me one of them just to try! I sampled this 12 ounce bottle (dated 09-March-2004) on 31-July-2004 (almost 5 months old) on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Would have never guessed this to be a baltic style porter. On tap at Dulles Airport. Great blackish-brown, hazy and has a nice beige head on it. Color is shiney and opaque. Aroma of roasty hazlenuts, flaked malt and dry hops. Begins with a medium body, roasty and lightly sweet. Moderately chewy texture, some hops apparency and a slight dryness on the finish that is lighter and crisper, in retrospect due to the lager yeast. But the body is good and chewy, with a peanut brittle finish, a hint of vinous malt and a pinch of brown sugar. Pretty good stuff, not terribly dripping with flavor, but what it has is very tasty.

Draught at Dulles Airport. Good chocolate brown with some ambers in there. Nice beige head. Smells lightly hoppy, with some very sweet malt. Opens up smooth and and almost velvety but for a bit much of carbonation. That dies off as it warms and leaves a pleasant hops flavor that is buried beneath chocolate malt and light hazlenut flavors. Fairly chewy malt profile, good crisp finish. I was impressed. Flavors complemented each other well, though in all it did get a bit sweet on the end.

Crystal clear-light amber colour with an almost non-existant head. Aroma of caramel, malt, light sweetness and a subtle metal aroma. Light-bodied; Sweet fruity character up front with a prolonged super light maltiness. Aftertaste clean with nothing showing. Overall, a decent light lager-not too flavourful, but good! I sampled this on Draught at Old Dominion Brewery in Ashburn, Virginia on 30-December-2003.
