Dark amber colour-slightly brown body with a thin tan head. Aroma of honey, caramel, vanilla, coriander seed and some yeast. Medium to Full-bodied; Fully spicey (coriander seed/nutmeg/nuts) character with some sweet tastes. Aftertaste has a nice nut flavour with good wheat/yeast tastes. Overall, a nice brown-not a style I typically care for. I sampled this on Draught at Old Dominion Brewery in Ashburn, Virginia on 30-December-2003.

Crystal clear golden colour with absolutely no head. Aroma of malt, slight hops, some citrus and a nice sweetness. Light-bodied; Assertive bitterness-some malt character and not much else. Aftertaste very bittered from the malt-not too pleasing. Overall, not too great-missing the fine subtlties of a lager. I sampled this on Draught at Old Dominion Brewery in Ashburn, Virginia on 30-December-2003.

23-October-2003 Bottle:
Super dark brown in colour with ruby highlights when tilted and a dense tan head that lasts! Aroma of chocolate, yeast, bread, cherries, roasted malt and prunes. Medium to Full-bodied; Coats the mouth with dark chocolate and coffee, then sweetens up nicely. Aftertaste bittered some from the malt and coffee, but left remarkably clean! Alcohol is somewhat noticeable, but hidden fairly well. I wanted to enjoy this beer (because I am Polish and it is from the best brewer in my home state-Virginia), and I REALLY enjoyed it! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Giant Food in Manassas, Virginia and sampled it on 21-December-2003.

Minimal nose. Almost black, lowish head. Milk-chokolate flavors with a bit oak added. Full to medium body. Chokolate and bitterhop aftertaste, which peters off a bit too fast. A very much appreciated beer after the check-in hell at Dulles airport....

Dark muddy brown. Thick, malty aroma with molasses, slight coffee, walnuts. Evenly balanced maltiness. Delicious finish of coffee, nuts and cream. A decadent dessert and the first really killer beer from the Toronto Christmas Party.

Pitch black in colour, frothy off-white coloured head from Nitrogen. Smells of roasted malt very prominent. Full-bodied; Very creamy mouthful. Tastes of malt, malt and more malt. Subtle aftertaste, a good deal of drying on the palate. As you drink the head leaves a VERY nice lacing around the glass...top notch. A fresh and clean stout that rivals some of the better 'Dry Stouts'...even from Ireland! I had this on draught at the Old Dominion Brewpub in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.

Dark golden in colour with a medium-sized white head. Cask-conditioned...room temperature; Aroma purely of hops...and a very pleasant, mouth-watering smell, I may add. Medium-bodied; Watery initial taste, followed by a strong hoppyness. Aftertaste filled with bitter hops reminiscent of pine & citrus. Most closely related with the 'Bitter' style...this was a very nice representation of a classic beer that you might be able to find in any 'old' pub in England. Overall, worth trying if you go out to the brewpub! I had this on draught at the Old Dominion Brewpub in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.

90% opaque dark brown in colour with a thick dense tan head. Strong smells of honey, vanilla, oak and roasted malt. Full-bodied; Strong oak and vanilla flavours with a subtle lingering sweetness and a malt background. Aftertaste bittered from malt, but sweetened by the sugar, vanilla and honey flavours. A great overall beer, too bad they don't bottle it! As the beer gets warmer, tobacco and other burnt essences get going in the beer and shape it very nicely. A beer that should be sampled by anyone with a few minutes to spare in Washington! I had this on draught at the Old Dominion Brewpub in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.

Amber in colour, small dense white head. Subtle malt aroma with very little else. Medium-bodied; Malt background with no foreground taste. Aftertaste of subtle malt and little else. Not a great beer overall, but also not a favourite style of mine.I had this on draught at the Old Dominion Brewpub in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.
