Description
In what has become known as the Craft Beer Revolution, the year 1989 stands out as a landmark moment when the Old Dominion Brewing Co. established a brewpub operation in Ashburn, Virginia. The small brewpub quickly became a production brewery that was named one of the Top 50 breweries in the U.S. The brewery cultivated a community, in which many discovered the joy and wonder of craft beer, inspiring many of the company’s brewers to start successful breweries of their own. We soon found ourselves working around the clock to provide our potent potables and gourmet soda up and down the East Coast.

In 2007, Fordham Brewing and Dominion Brewing joined forces. Dominion operations ceased in Virginia in 2009 and the Dominion label was brewed under the Fordham & Dominion Brewing Company name in Delaware.

Crystal clear golden coloured body with a nice off-white head, even from draught. Aroma of wheat, coriander seed, yeast, corn and a small amount of curacao. Medium-bodied; Chewy taste with strong bananas, cloves and yeast in the taste. Aftertaste is nice and refreshing - malt is leftover with a good amount of sweetness. Overall, a good american kristall - If you bottled this with a german label, you’d never know it was produced in the states...let alone a suburb of Washington! A great beer to start off the Old Dominion Beer Festival with! I sampled this six ounce sample from pseudo-draught at the Old Dominion 2005 Beer Festival on 24-June-2005 in Ashburn, Virginia.

Nice deep copper coloured body with a perfect sized dense slightly-off white head. Perfect look! Aroma of nice piney hops with a good spruce scent and a long-lasting caramely maltness that lasts throughout the scent. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong sweetness up front with much more malt than hops and a good dose of spice. Aftertaste shows even more sweetness - caramel, toffee and even more caster sugar. Overall, a nice winter offering - each of the Winter Brews are good to try. A bit lacking in the hops, but the malt and sugars help this one out. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle given to me from my friend Phil (haddon90) on 24-February-2006.

2006 (11/17/2006) bottle thanks to beervirgin72. Pours with a decently thick, khaki head that slowly dissipates to a film over a murky golden brown body. Good lacing. Strong bourbon aroma that fills the room. Aroma is bourbon, oak, curacao and other citrus booze, orange peel, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, maple and leather. Taste has a lot of citrus, including some astringency, and lots of bourbon and some barrel ashy-ness with toffee, alcohol and a decent amount of sherry. Basically a lot of barrel and orange. Not amazingly complex, but still pleasant. Somewhat syrupy and mouth coating. Alcohol is there with a slight burn and warming after a few minutes. Moderately tingly carbonation. Good and somewhat different barley wine.

Blond color, big head. Not the aroma (too light) nor the color reveal anything amber, just the flavor shows some nutty touch. Correctly bitter.

Bottle: Brown with a reddish tint. Nice little creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet and seductive, faint oak and a lively maltiness. Tastes of light barrel aged notes, bits of vanilla, and a welcome amount of fruitiness. Not being well acquainted with sherry, but I think that is playing a role too. Easy to sip, seems to age well as I received this in trade from someone last year... Thanks for sending this to Boise!

12oz bottle. Red-amber color. Aroma is sweet and herbal. Crisp, with a spicy hop balance. Rich malty sweetness, some nice earthy caramel tones. Definite red characteristics coming through as well as a solid hop backbone. Pretty good beer, and I’ll bet my rating would improve had I reviewed this beer brewery fresh.
