Description
Pelican Brewing Company was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world. Today we’ve taken our breweries and our values to other Oregon coastal towns where we wake up each day in a place that reminds us that amazing is possible. Cheers fellow fanatics. This is as good as it gets.

Poured from 650mL bottle (2023 vintage). Near black with small beige head. Woody rye barrel forward, well integrated, more of a medium body, but still enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle at the hotel bar, 9.9.23. Clear gold, medium white head, average retention. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, pale malt. Gratefruit, pine, marmalade, pale malt. Mild bitterness, well balanced. 31st state in which I've consumed a locally made beer while in the state. I hope the rest of the trip is like this beer!

On tap deep dark brown pour with a fine ring of light tan bubbles. Chocolate and soft dark roast in the aromas. Sweet chocolatey with a little oak.. but flat and sweet. I suspect old beer in the line Disappointing
Earlier Rating: 3/24/2020 Total Score: 3.6
From a bottle. Pours a nearly black with a coarse tan head. Coffee and dark chocolate in the aromas and flavors. Lactose is evident but a nice roasty bite as well

16 oz can. Pours a slightly hazy gold with thin head. Aromas of papaya and peach. Flavor is a clean IPA with a decent hop bitterness, but a kind of nondescript hop flavor. A bit of resin on the tail end, a little citrus in the middle... a nice balance of malt to hops, but kind of a disappointment on the fancy new hops.

On tap at Pelican. Pours a clear gold with a thin head and aromas of melon, berry, mango, and resin. Flavor is a beautifully balanced malt against hop with a resin finish. My kind of ipa.

12oz bottle from HomeBrewStuff. Dark golden pour, patchy fine head. Sweet malty aroma. Taste stays with the sweet malts, toffee, gingery notes, finishing with a light bitterness. Nice!
