Description
The Dortmunder Union Brewery (DUB) was established in 1873, the first brewmaster was Fritz Brinkhoff (1848-1927), who worked 50 years for the brewery. In 1887, a failed brew was delivered to a customer in Aachen which was a huge success. The Dortmunder Export was born.

In 1994, the Union Brewery took over the Dortmund Ritter Brewery, established in 1889, and renamed itself the Dortmund Union Ritter Brewery. Production was relocated from the city center to the previous production facility of the Ritter brewery on the outskirts in Lütgendortmund. In 2002 the Union-Ritter-Brauerei was renamed the Brinkhoff Brewery, and in 2006 production was relocated to the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei.

(on tap at Tom´s Sportbar, Holzwickede) Dark red-brown colour with a foamy tanned small head. Shy roastmalty aroma. Soft sweet and malty flavour and taste with caramel, but only light dry hopbitterness in the background and finish. Smooth and easy going Dunkel but it lacks definitely taste and character.

(bottle) Pale golden colour with a foamy bubbling white medium head. Bread malty nose with a tinge of grassy hops. Crisp and clean mouthfeel, slightly sweet malty flavour and taste, dry and moderate hopbitter grassy finish. A fairly good Pilsener.

(bottle) Pale golden colour with a small foamy white head. Malty aroma with cake dough. Bittersweet flavour, medium body. Malty taste with a fair hop balance that becomes a bit sharp in the finish. Anyway a typical Dortmunder, hoppier than the classical Helles from the south of Germany.

(bottle) Decent and drinkable Dortmunder Export. Pilsener-esque appearance and taste. Quite well-made, clean, not too sweet and rather hop accentuated.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of Grovlam. Clear, pale golden with a tall, dense and very white head. Clean and malty nose. Medium body with a solid, clean malt base. Some floral notes and a dry and hoppy finish. 080707 (Bottle 50 cl) Pale golden with a fairly decent head. Lightly malty with a marked bitter finish. Very classical German, but not absolute "spitzenklasse". 4/2/5/2/9=2.2 191200

Bottle. Bready hop aroma. Golden colour, OK white head. Malty flavour, some hoppiness, not that bitter. Good mouthfeel, not thin at all.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pilsener golden with a very small head. Distinct malty character both in aroma and flavour and only a weak touch of hops. Somewhat sulphurous. 060905

Bottle: Fluffy head, quite long lasting, pale golden colour; some grassy hoppiness in the nose, mild bitter flavour, dryer and more bitter aftertaste; a bit watery, a bit soapy: the question is: why do they call it "First" ?
