Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Black with minimal tan head. Sweet chocolate, ripe berries, vanilla, light bourbon, caramel. Medium bodied. Finish has our first encounter with roasted malts. This is fine but not that interesting.

Black with an active, tall beige head. Very light on the classic imperial stout notes. Little roasted malts, no chocolate, etc. Fruity, some dark malts, vanilla, maybe some oak. Medium to light body. Short finish. This is an odd one.

More cloudy than hazy golden with a white head. This strikes me as a mashup of NE and WC because while it is sweet and oat filled with tropical bits, there are good citrus hops and nice bitterness. Finish has tropical fruit twang with some bitter notes too. Medium full body. It works for me since I don’t like NEIPAs. Not sure it’ll work well for hazy lovers though.

Black with a creamy beige head. Soft Irish whisky right up front paired with chocolate, light roasted notes, earthy, some cracker malts, vanilla, and light wood. Full bodied. Finish has the Irish whisky and sweet malts but in a non-abrasive fashion. Not so much a powerhouse but a very nice beer.

Med bod, low carbo. Lots of sharp boozy alc, mostly ethyl, but also light solventy. Lots of dried fruits, med toasted malt. but strong. That is about it though. Rather simplish. GBNG.

Panda thanks to Cloin. Just a mild haze on this deep brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Thin bodied dark malts. An oaty biscuity mellow chocolate dark malt flavour, thin dark malt cream. Earthy and slightly bitterish whiskey contrasts with a clear barrel imparted vanilla oak. Mild alcohol spice and light earthy coffee on the semi dry finish. Could be more sumptuous in the gob feel but, digging the flavour of this one.

Tap at Winter Affair 2026. Hazy amber body, off-white head. Phenolic aroma, dry grapes. Lean, dry, tart taste, white grapes, funky, okay. Bit too simple of a rating.
