Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Can at home, from Crafts & Yards online, 01/05/22. Extremely dark mahogany brown melding to light black and topped with a good sized khaki covering. Nose is bourbon, spice, tangy dried fruits, trace of coconut, dark malts, chocolate. Taste comprises chocolate praline, dark malts, kiss of booze, nutty, vanilla, molasses, spice, fruit rinds. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid pastry affair ... on point and delivers both flavour and boost.

Keg at BD Shoreditch, 19/04/22. Black with a decent tan covering that clears to a swirl. Nose is dark malts, light spice, mellow barrel notes if unable to pick out any specifics, nutty twang, chocolate. Taste comprises chocolate, Rocky Roads, dried red berries, spice, mellow barrel, light roast, toffee fudge. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of alcohol. A touch simplistic for a BA affair but an ok sipper.
