Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Can. Color: Slightly hazy orange amber, yellowish off-white head. Aroma: Malty and hoppy notes, vinuous, fruity, bit boozy. Taste: Malty and hoppy at the same time, caramel notes, fruity grape, bit vinuous. Moderate to over moderate sweet, light to moderate bitterness. A little more bitterness at the dry finish. Extra points for the unusual blend and BA with a very nice result.

Can. Color: Hazy reddish amber, off-white head. Aroma: Malty, caramel notes, vinuous, boozy, Whiskey notes. Quite complex. Taste: Malty, starting sweetish, going to more fruity, vinuous, grapes. Subtle caramel in the background. Some wood. A little boozy, some Whiskey. Just over medium body, just under average carbonation. Very nice one. Tasting more boozy than it is. Refreshing. Great barrel ageing.

Can at home, from Yards & Crafts online, 08/01/22. Light black with a moderate tan covering that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is tangy dried fruits, spice, woody tones, cocoa sprinkle, light charr, mellow barrel notes. Taste comprises dark chocolate, spice, sherry twang, dried fruit rinds, lactic pinch, tangy dark fruit rinds, dates, figs. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of alcohol. Ok BA impy ... comes over a little tangy for my liking but ultimately it weighs in below its stated 11% and delivers sherry notes and sips fine ... grew on me rising from a 3.7 to a 3.8.

Can from my Beerdome Webshop, Grootegaste, Netherlands and consumed at home, Wednesday 1st December 2021 listening to Marc Riley on 6 Music after having the Fish Pie from Olive Magazine. Pours hazy mid gold with a white head, super soft mouthfeel, fruity with a soft mouthfeel. Creamy mouthfeel, a little oats edge. Fuzzy edge. It’s fine but it’s not really standing out in a very crowded market.
