Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Mystery beer. Bottle without a label shared by Beersiveknown @ tasting at his place. Huge thanks Steve! Opaque black color, average sized beige to light brown colored head. Smell and taste malts, lightly peaty, slightly sourish, dry bitter. Decent body and carbonation. Hmm ok but not my favorite.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [021016]
Amber, very murky, frothy white head, sandpit bottom of bottle
Aroma - Tropical fruits, citrus, sweet fruity malts, aroma far better than flavour
Taste of citrus fruits, bitter earthy yeast, some sweet fruity malts, bitter yeast. Flavour spoiled by the yeast
Palate - Medium body, powdery texture, rough mouthfeel, quite sweet malt, bitter hops and yeast. Finish of bitter yeast, bitter hops
Overall - Far far too much yeast in the bottle, not possible to pour keeping the yeast behind. Needs a re-rate when these problems have been sorted out. The rye ale was much nicer.
