Draught pump poor. Quite nice, with lots of depth. Mellow, natural soft carbonation. Lots of finings and a soapy, piny bitterness. Smooth, creamy finish. A pretty top-notch Stateside example of the style.

Draft. Very rich, thick black color. Chocolate milk tones in the aroma. Thick, steady beige head. This is a great Stout. Roasty, deep chocolate tones. Excellent through and through. Creamy body, mild natural CO2. Awesome.

Cask at Churchkey. Copper color with a bright white edge head. Aroma of pepper, gun metal and pine sol. Flavor is malty, thin bodied, and lacks bit.

On cask at Churchkey in DC. The cask was dry hopped with additional Chinook pellets. Clear orange amber with a frothy, rocky white head. The aroma is nice, the dry hopping is evident, light citrus fruits, light candy, sweet, a little buttery. Flavor is malty, sweet, crackers, bread. A little watery. Good example of dry hopping, bad follow through in the flavor.

Cask/handpull at Pizzeria Paradiso. Copper color with a thick white head and airy lacing. Aroma of caramel and black pepper, progressively bitter. Great mouthfeel. Reminds me of the time I leaved in Suffolk, England - a classic English style bitter, extremely well kept and served. Perfect example of the style.

Tap at Max’s in Baltimore. Black with a thick creamy head and delicate lacing. Aroma of wood/pine and cocoa. Flavor begins with sweet chocolate and progresses to a woody, smoky, bitter finish. Interesting.

Sampled on cask at Churchkey in Washington DC. The description on the menu says the cask was packed with vanilla beans. Pours a translucent, deep brown, black with a creamy, slightly off white head. Aroma is very mild, some chocolate, some toast, some nuts but NO vanilla. Flavor is fine, sweet, a little caramel, a little dark toast but NO vanilla. Finish is sweet and a little dry. This was fine, I might have preferred it more on tap with a tad more carbonation. I was expecting more of a vanilla kick, but if there are vanilla beans in the cask then I couldn’t sense them.

Sampled on cask at Churchkey, Washington DC. Pours a transparent, copper, purplish amber with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma is malty, bready, a little oak. Flavor is malty, some light toasted grains, bread, crackers, biscuit, some mild sweetness. Finish was a little watery. Nice for a mild.

On cask at Churchkey in DC. Poured a deep ruby copper color with a small, very thin white head. Aroma is holiday spices consisting of nutmeg with touches of cinnamon. Flavor has a nice malt character, roasted, touch of bitterness in the back of the mouth, candy sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg. A pretty phenomenal beer.

Cask, served at 52˚ Appearance was dark reddish brown with a small white head, medium longevity, with good lacing. Smell was caramel and licorice/anise. Taste was sweet malt, scotch and vanilla with a constant background of licorice. Very much on the sweet side with not quite enough balance. Overall, interesting and unique, worth trying if you like the style.
