Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.
Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

Served on nitro at the brewery. Pours a dark brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. The taste is big chewy roasted malts, chocolate, bitter hops. Medium bodied, creamy texture, refreshing. Nice beer.

Very oaky bourbon nose. Clear cola, thin head. Coconut, vanilla, and bourbon flavor. Despite the barrel treatment, gingerbread is still prominent.

22oz bottle pours a watery, mahogany brown with some cloudy, white head. Nose has plenty of blackberry, some toast, some chocolate. Flavor is sweet, fruity, more than just berries, some vanilla, some chocolate, a little licorice. Slightly watery, fruity finish. I wanted a bit more.

Location: Draft at Capital Ale-Innsbrook, 11/21/12
Aroma: , The nose is what you would expect, it has lots of spice Belgian yeast, clove, and fruit
Appearance: This one pours in a glass a cloudy gold color with a white head and medium lace
Flavor: The taste is really nice, right on for what you want from this style with spice/yeast, and sweetness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a nice, creamy feel, an average carbonation, and a good finish
Overall Impression: I just have to say again, that as a native of Richmond (or as they say now RVA, which still doesn't sound right to me) I am extremely excited to see a new brewery this good show up in my Hometown. This was a really good example of a Belgian Singel, it is the type of beer that appeals to everyone, and probably one of the best American examples that I can remember trying.
