Tap at Toranomon. Amber-orange with a thick, low lacy head. Fruity, citrus nose, some caramel. Very sweet and sugary, caramel, orange, with a bitter finish. Far too syrupy and sweet. Not good.

From a plastic cup @ Japan Brewers Cup Festival 2014. Pours quite pale and clear. Aroma has some interesting character - not sure if it is coming from yeast or from hops. Flowery, sweet and floral, almost feels like smelling flowers. Taste is also quite soft and flowery. Has a decent malt base and a bitter aftertaste - although overall maybe a bit too sweet for my taste. I wouldn’t want to session it though.

From a plastic cup @ Japan Brewers Cup Festival 2014. Looks pale, a bit hazy. Aroma is not too strong but reveals some oily and pine-needle character, hinting a hoppy brew. Taste is bitter as it should be - but remains perhaps a bit watery. Aftertaste is long, bitter and enjoyable. Some sweetness in the body, has some passionfruit aromas and taste.

From a plastic cup @ Japan Brewers Cup Festival 2014. Pours nice copper-amber colour, nice foam even if it’s a plastic cup. Aroma is not very strong, some yeast seems to be strong, slight caramel. Taste has some exiting interplay between hop bitterness and malt sweetness. Fruity and bittersweet aftertaste. Very nice beer, I could session it easily.

From a plastic cup @ Japan Brewers Cup Festival 2014. Looks dark golden, a bit hazy. I guess quite usual look for an IPA. Aroma is modest, you can feel some hops and some sweeter malt undertones but it is not very complex. Taste is bitter from the first sip, don’t have this as your first beer as it really numbs your palate. It has also a decent body but hop bitterness is still a dominating force. Aftertaste has some bitter grapefruit seeds that last long, some bittersweet fruity malts also there. Mouthfeel is slick, a bit oily. Good IPA, not the greatest I have had but would love to have this again.

Tap at Q-Brick. Nice cloudy golden-orange with a fine head. Citrus hop nose, with clove and banana, peaches, pepper. Nice weizen flavor, crisp and hoppy. Very bitter finish—a bit too bitter, actually. Nice tropical fruit edge. Good, but would be great with less bitterness.

5.5% part of the tasting set at Bankan, 800 yen for 3 small glasses. A super cloudy gold, it looks like an unfiltered cider. A hoppy citrus on the nose with some light weizen clove spicy notes. The taste is interesting, hoppy citrus punch before switching over to weizen notes of spices & light banana in the finish. It works! I’d love to have it in the summer.

Draught at Tadg’s. Bright golden, cloudy. Spicy yeast nose, slightly pissy, tart hops, light funk. Nice lemony, bready flavor, dry finish, solid hopping but not huge. Very bready without sweetness, and amazing body for the abv. Can it really be that low? Drinks amazingly.

On tap at Tadg’s for KyotoLefty’s book launch event. A fairly clear gold with a decent aroma. The taste is clean, bitter & surprisingly tasty for a low ABV beer. A thoroughly enjoyable beer.

Tap at Q-Brick. Malty nose with orange, some caramel and chocolate, bread, grass. Nice hops. Orange-brown with a medium fine head. Big caramel and chocolate flavor, orange and grass. Too much caramel malt, but still nice enough. Sweet, and it works well with the orange hop flavors. Nice grassy edge, good bitterness. Not very summery.
